What's it worth

I picked up a 2005 f150 FX4. Pretty loaded for the most part. It had a blown engine which I replaced with a remanufactured engine from a pretty reputable place. My question is how much more is that worth than buying the truck with a good running high mileage engine in it.

So what I have is 157k on the clock and KBB has it valued at 10k or so with the stock engine . What is it worth to have a new engine in that 157k body? You think I should ask 11k or more..... less?? Should I use a price for a truck with 100k on the clock.
Your thoughts please.

If i were looking for a 2005 F150 FX4, i would pay more than KBB value if it had a new engine. Just saying.....

Just post it with the lower mileage engine info at a higher price. If it doesn't go, lower the price. Trucks are in demand this time of year.

This is a difficult question because the KBB value is based on aggregate buying patterns. My gut feeling is that the truck is worth the same as an identical truck with a good functioning high mileage engine.

The reason is because I think the market values take this kind of stuff into account when they are formed from the aggregate. This truck has a new engine which presumably has more life left than an original high mileage engine. But how many of the other trucks in the sample also do? Do any of the other trucks have significant replacements in other systems (like transmissions) that would offset the engine replacement in this truck?

I think the other poster had the right idea. Try to get extra for the engine job. If you can't, you can't.

I agree with 1980 also to a point. I figure mine fits into this category except mine has a brand new engine. Bluebook for mine would be 9942. I have to think I could at least add a grand to that for the new engine and leak free drive train. But A truck with no leaks with 157k miles shows 10300. I don't know I think I will start out high like I am right now and see what happens. I think I will go 11500. to start with and settle for what ever cash offer come first.

As a buyer I would want to know why the engine blew - its a fairly young truck for a new engine I would say unless it has seen severe use, and it would make me inspect the transmission closely and check if there was a "rebuilt" status etc.

Is/was there a trailer hitch and does it appear to be used a lot (scratch marks etc) if its there? This would make me think about $ for the transmission down the road.

To me if it seemed like the truck was looked after otherwise (the matching tires and bills to show would ease my mind somewhat in this regard) you could value it higher than the high mileage quoted price.

This. If I was buying a truck to use as a winter beater or a fun truck... basically anything other than a DD, it wouldn't matter as much. But, if someone is buying it as a DD, then I'm sure they'd want the above answered.
Value, eh I'd start at what everyone else on AutoTrader and Cars.com is asking and see what sort of bites you get.

Thanks EJ and Nathan points taken. Yes it does have a tow package which does look used. Heck at 157k miles it all looks used. ha. Finishing up the detailing this weekend and will probably list in early next week. Thanks for the input everyone.
