Volvo Planning C30R

Sort of. According to LLN Volvo is planning to build a C30 using the same turbo/intercooled five the Focus RS will employ with more than 300hp and AWD. The car may be identified by different nomenclature than the R designation used in the past.

Irony? When Volvo ditched the R lineup I understood why, but only if Volvo was eschewing true high performance performance models altogether. If Volvo does indeed have more Swedish uber-iron coming for the future then the R moniker is the obvious choice since it has history, a following, and is the only hi-po badge they have ever had. Why go to the trouble of developing a new moniker?

There is another hi-po badge Volvo has used in the past. One that would make a lot of sense on this car actually, call it the C30 T5R.

I preferred the days when the R moniker was attached to the 'lesser' T5 moniker. IMHO it built continuity and lent a greater level of performance legitimacy to the T5.
