The first EcoBoost engine out of the gate is the 340hp 3.5L V-6, This will be the optional engine in the Lincoln MKS starting in 2009 in place of a V-8.....................hmmmmmm 3.5 makes 340...what could a 3.7 make in the stang...

Also, I've heard the hi-po versions of Ecoboost will go by a different name.

I thought the turbo 3.5 in the MKS was supposed to have 415hp?? Unless this is the more sedate engine as the TF wasn't supposed to be in the MKS at all at launch. Who knows, sounds good either way

So sounds like they can utilize that name if they require 1 or 2 turbo's...
Also TwinForce could still be used I guess on the higher powered V8 TwinTurbo's
The name does convey economy, even if sounding a tad lame.
But lets face it, they can call it BunnyPower, and as long as it produced 340hp and 340ft-lbs out of a 3.5... I could care LESS what they call it

They could wind it up into the 425 range, but they're going for max efficiency while still puttting out us much Hp and ft-lbs as possible. I'd imagine that they can monkey with those numbers depending on the application.

well you have to figure too, if people have the power they will use it, hurting mpg rating, and if they make the engine too powerful, the drivline will have to be beefed substantialy...but the mkz..4wd drifting with 400 hp and ft lbs...sounds like a lot of fun

Did you notice "340+ hp". And if the 3.5 is 340+, the 3.7 will be 360+. Yes I would pimp a Mustang with 360hp+/360ftlb+ and 150 pounds off the front end. That would bring the Mustang v6 pretty close to 50/50 weight distribution.

Ford moves at a snails pace...
The other question is what transmissions will Ford put behind these engines as nothing they have can handle that much torque..

If Mazda is also goign to use the EcoBoost moniker (honestly don't know), then the CX would likely get rebadged with EcoBoost during its mid-cycle refresh. However, its just as likely EcoBoost will be F/L/M only.
The DI manufactuing capacity is still being put together, just like the GTDI capacity. The N/A DI engines will roll as that capacity grows and can accomodate them. Lets see what's in store at NAIAS before we start bleating that nothing's been done, shall we?

TwinForce was a great name. It was a mistake to change it to EcoBoost - which may be more generally descriptive of what the new engines represent - but sounds completely gay.
