I just got the Road and Track for this month and one of the tests they do is a 4 door comparo with Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and the Fusion.

Fusion scored a respectable second. They stated that the car accelerates quite smartly and that there is a very connected feel on the road.

Things like 7.2 second 0-60 vrs 6.8 for the Honda and other little quibbles kept it out of first. They stated they could feel the engine vibrating through the floor pan on their right foot and that interior materials were somewhat sub-standard. The Honda interior apparently blows everything else in this class out the door. Of course the Honda was several thousands more on price.
that comparison was in Motor Trend, not Road and Track. They say if you're the type of person that values the fun in driving, the fusion is the car for you. It seems like it was a tough decision when they thought about the price, but in the end they were like, "just go for it, spend the extra dough and get the accord."
They didn't talk about looks much though. I don't think they even said a word about the fusion's sweet style.

They are beautiful aren't they Jeff!

We just got in a Silver SE V6 and a black SEL V6 in addition to the Merlot SEL V6 we got about 2 weeks ago. We put it in the showroom.

I'm going to a Ride and Drive on Nov. 8th where we'll be testing out the I4 manual too. I'm anxious to see how spunky they are.

i just saw that Car and Driver had the exact same comparison this month. 4th to 1st: toyota, hyundai, fusion, accord.... just like motor trend. They're complaints about the fusion? Something about the HVAC controls being way too low, i think that was pretty much it.

Jeff, the placement of the Heat & A/C controls are good, but IMO, Ford could have moved the info buttons that are above the radio, to the steering wheel (like a 500), put the passenger seat airbag off light above the heat vents, and and put the hazard button, and T/C (traction control) button along the side of the radio. Then they could have raised the radio to the top portion of the console, and then put the heating controls directly below the radio. What would you do with the clock on the SEL? Don't know, but it wouldn't hurt it if it didn't have it. By moving the radio as high as it could go, below the air vents, the A/C controls would have fit perfectly below the radio, and still be high enough for people to reach without having to look down. Just a thought though. I still love the car, just wondering what could have been done better, seeing this was mentioned in the magazine.

They also said the body panel gaps were way too big, and made the car look cheap. I saw one in person, they didnt look too bad. My complaint is that hideos circa 1985 steering wheel they used.

But then again, that is just their opinion. Those idiots from Car and Driver named $24,000, 200-hp Acura RSX Type S cheap speed. There is nothing cheap about $24,000, and 200-hp they call speed?

Hey Jimmy, isn't that a sweet car. A total departure for Ford compared to the Taurus. To let you know, the tranny is a 6-speed automatic. I too can't wait to see what they do with this car. I hear a GT version is coming out, then maybe an SVT. Looks like this car will do well.
Yeah, this car is great. If Ford gets some good press for it and people actually take the time to test drive it then it should sell quite well. I was expecting alot when I drove it and like I said earlier I was surprised by how good it felt.

ya, i've been checking two fusions out at the dealer from the bus on the way to school, one blueish silver, the other sorta beige... They look really sweet, i agree, better in person. Still haven't made the trip down there to really check em out though.

I love those analogue clocks! I NEED them! i don't have a bloody watch! cars with clocks are so helpful. And they are darn classy too. I got so jealous when i saw one in a 300, i was like... why doesn't the 500 have a fancy clock like that. I remember back when i was a kid, my parents taped my cookie monster wash to the dashboard of our grand marquis wagon. that was classy too

Hey Jeff, the 500 does have an analog clock in the car. You have to get the Limited model, but that comes with one. It's in the center of the dash, between the two vents.
