If you read the article that I posted above (there are more pics that state its an early Fairlane mule) the story will say that this is a test mule for the Fairlane. Its a test mule for the purpose of engine airflow. They grafted the front of the Fairlane onto a Freestyle, as the Fairlane is using the D3 chassis. If you look closely, there is added sheetmetal tacked into the vehicle both at the B-piller (for length), and in the raingutter (for width). Plus, on the site that has all the pics, the hood of the vehicle is very tall compared to the 500 that is parked next to it.
The other reason that I say this, is that there has already been photos of the new updated Freestyle that were basically uncovered, that showed the 500 grill. This is the start of the mules for the Fairlane. Come to think of it, we haven't even seen any mules for this vehicle, so that is another reason why that is what it is, the start of the Fairlane project. Plus, remember those Ford Bold Moves videos. There was an episode that clearly showed an early pre-production Fairlane that was being shown to a consumer group. While you couldn't see everything of the car, you could see the style, and the shape. Ford said the boxy shape of the concept will remain and that the real thing will look 90% like the concept. Another reason to believe what you see above is the Fairlane (or whatever they will call it).

well, if you're a fairlane guy, than you probably would be disappointed by the concept car that was given the Fairlane name. But its actually a pretty interesting car, (mini-van alternative), and besides, they've told us that the final vehicle will get a different name. Maybe that means they've got more prestigious and true-to-the-roots plans for the Fairlane title.

Believe me its not a Freestyle. There have already been pics of undisquised Freestyles driving around. This is the start of the mules for the Fairlane (or whatever it will be called) people mover.

Anyone notice the driver's seat sits higher than the rest? Fairlane height?

Because they've already invested money in it and with an update to the rather mundane styling, it could turn into a much better seller. Plus, the need a seven seater crossover since the Edge only seats five (although I've heard rumors that a seven seat Edge might be on the way).
