Should Mercury build a "focus" type car?
Should Mercury build a "focus" type car?
Well...that title asks what it means...I really like what Mercury did for the Milan, and like it way better than the fusion, but I would like to have a focus based Mercury with a few standard luxurys like cruise control, and power options, not to mention elegant styling cues...although, it would have to be offerend in the sedan only...to keep ricers away...(even though it probably wont help a lot)
Mercury has no brand identity. All they have is rebadged Fords with new grilles and taillights and a slightly upgraded interior. They might do a good job with the Focus, but I'd rather see Mercury pursue a new car altogether, or at least a model line that is specific to them.

They used the cougar as their ad campaign for years. A Cougar would sell and that's the name of the game.
well...how about Mercury does a car on the Mazda3 platform, and Ford keeps the old focus one.....

ok...making a cougar out of a mustang would be no different...and honestly, I dont think they would sell to many cause it would be too expensive...PLUS... the existing Mustang is plenty luxurious as it is (at least in the world of pony car history.) A low priced economy car that is as genuine of a car as the Milan would sell better...but I dont know if it would sell twice as many to make up for the price difference the models would have...(Say if the [mocous] starts at 15,900 and the Cougar starts at 30,000)...maybe I feel this way cause I dont want a focus, but am stuck in that price range right now....
If not a Cougar, maybe Ford could use an improved (lighter) version of the Thunderbird chassis and making their own "retromobile"? Like say, in the mold of the Fortynine concept? I always felt it would be better suited as a Mercury and the car drew crowds when it made an appearance here. Give it the front strut suspension from the Mustang, the T-bird's IRS, and a NA (Al block) 5.4 V8... a bit more luxury - for around $30k.
