Should Ford Build Another Super Car?
We all know that
kicks butt and was a world beater. With cars like the ZR1, GT-R, and even the yet to be revealed V10 NSX, should Ford jump back into the super car arena and compete?
Since the GT is retired, they could always bring back the
We all know it would be pretty cool, but given Ford's current financial situation would it be a wise decision? Can they afford to waste time on a true super car? Should they just concentrate on the small car market instead? Would a world beater super car improve their reputation and image?
Personally, I say do it. But then again I'm not responsible for keeping their books.

I'd love to see Ford do some sort of supercar with a 3-4 year run about once a decade. It would probably make sense to wait a few years from now, but maybe a couple of years after the release of the 50th anniversary Mustang.

+1 on the GR-1, with some updates like using the 5.0 TT and styling refinements to clean it up a tad. I'd do it right before 2020, since that's when the CAFE regs start getting really tough.

I do, and if you happen to read a story on the car (I believe they talked about it during an interview with Fred Goodnow, during an story about the Ford GT build). The car really was a pile of junk, so to say. Totally unfeasible, with items that would NEVER make it to production (the tiles on the back deck, around the exhaust tips, were from the NASA Space Shuttle). The glass canopy was totally off the wall, and couldn't be built for production.
If they wanted to go "off the wall", do the Ford Indigo!! THAT WAS SWEET!!! Cool thing about this car, iFord was THISCLOSE to being built. Ford had it all worked out for production internally, but Reynard, the Indy Racing company, who was commissioned to build the 1 piece composite chassis and suspension, couldn't come through with the number of chassises they needed (I think that was the issue, but its been a while since I read about it). The cool thing, the V12 they used in this car (which wasn't the same motor as what was in the GT90), was the motor that went into Aston Martins. This car would be SICK, with a EB TT 5.0!!!

If Ford builds it, IT WILL SELL!!!
Of course they should build a new super car. They already did the hard expensive research and development on the GT Super Car. Ford really needs to get their production numbers up and that price down into the Z06 range though.
Just like Ford has tweaked the GT500 to up the performance for the GT500KR. Improved aerodynamics/down force, improved handling, improved traction, even an improvement in power. They could tweak the GT Super Car performance too. Besides traction is not the big problem with the GT Super Car that it is with the Mustang GT500 so improvements will be even easier...
If I could get a new GT Super Car for under $85,000 I would be driving one today, even with no improvements over the 2006's.

Yeah, I actually saw that in person at the RI auto show years after it debuted. That's how low on the totem RI's show was, and that one was higher than AZ is, lol.
Yeah, I loveed the IndiGo. Great concept. I saw a prelim sketch from the designer once which was of a rather smaller car using what I assume was a turbo 4 or 6, sometimes I wonder if they had stayed with the instead of going to the V12 where Aston would have gone for an engine.

New styling, improved performance GT
Super Car wise, the Mid Engine GT has some big advantages...
I think the new styling, improved performance GT would probably be the most cost effective best performing choice. Although I would be happy with any of the 3 if it were able to soundly trounce the new Z06 in both acceleration and handling.

Ford doesn't have the money or resources right now to build a supercar. Maybe in 5-10 years we could see one. I'd like them to keep it around 75K and compete with the GTR and Z06. A small displacement V8 with twin turbos would be a nice start.
