I don't think this means much, other than Ford is trying to prevent what happened with the GT-40 (losing the rights to the name, and then 30 years later deciding they want to bring it back). Most of these are just classic nameplates that you want to keep under your banner. You wouldn't want to see a Chevy Thunderbird, or Nissan 370Z Mach 1.
Wouldn't read too much into this, probably just the lawyers wanting to keep Ford's naming options open rather than indicating any imminent new product unveiling.
As for King Cobra, given how God awful the last Mustang II iteration was (about 250lbs of stickers mostly), let that name die in ignominy.

I remember back in 88 Ford put the Mach 1 Name on a special edition Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. It was offered in Mach 1 specific Titanium Silver and Fire Engine Red, other than the color, all it consisted of was a couple of Mach 1 Decals on the front fenders and the deck lid. But I found out they had to use the name or loose the rights to it. I'd love to find one of them in decent condition, they're very rare.

1st generation USA-Escape was also sold in Europe as Ford Maverick.

Nope, the Mach 1 Thunderbird Turbo Coupes were an Official FMC Special Edition. As I said, it was offered in 2 distinct colors that were not available on the 88 Thunderbird, they were actually colors that debuted on the 89 Supercoupe, Titanium, and Bright Red (Non Metallic) but other than the paint the only special thing about them are the Mach 1 Decals. I remember seeing a few of them at various Ford dealers back then. The Red tended to stand out a little more because the only other red they offered on the 88's was a Darker Metallic Red called Canyon Red, the Titanium was different than the Silver they offered for 88, slightly darker and a hint of gold to it. It was a very common color on the 89 Supercoupe.
There are also a whole lotta other reasons names may be retrademarked as well... certain aftermarket accessories, gifts, apparel, model cars, etc... Anything Ford may license a company to use a model name or logo on...
