Don't bother with an SHO motor. Trust me. Finding parts for this motor is becoming difficult. I now have to rely on www.fastpartsnetwork.com to locate returned unused parts from dealerships to get the parts I need for my SHO. Besides, you really can't get much more power out of it unless you install a supercharger.

I have seen the monster miata on the net before. Funny you mention that. Just yesterday I thought to myself... I wonder how well a OHC 4.6 would work in a miata? I suppose the motor would not fit because it is much wider than the pushrod 302.

Yeah, MM is nice but if I were doing a v-8 roadster I'd do a Cobra kit and do it right. Appealing, but mo money.

This isn't something I'm likely to do anytime soon anyway, maybe by the time I have the $$ and time there will be other options for hot, strong, and light mills.

 

Maybe a MS5 would have the performance potential to steal sales from any upcoming RX7-type 2 seat sports car. Definitely not supposed to be more capable than the RX8, which is Mazda's "top dog".

 

No doubt, a MS5 with a rwd version of the GTDi four out of the MS3 would eat the RX8's lunch and likely nibble a bit on RX8's dinner for good measure.

If Mazda is going to build a rotary then I have two suggestions.

1: overbuild the **** out of it so reliability isn't an issue...these cars aren't exactly volume sellers or gas sippers so a higher price tag couldn't hurt that badly.

2: artificial lungs of either variety across the board as standard fare. Rotary engines crank out too little torque down low to be interesting and suck too much gas for too little hp in n/a trim. Throw on the hairdryers or don't waste your time.

 

Gotta agree with this. I've always liked the RX-8 (a BLAST to drive), but the Wankel just doesn't have IT without Forced Induction. Given how well they cover the weaknesses in the Rotary design, you'd think Hairdryers would be an automatic part of any RX.

 

That sucks, they should make a new firewall for mazdaspeed version if thats why the engine wouldn't fit. 270+hp turbocharged power in a miata = total awesomness.
