New Capri on the way in Europe?
New Capri on the way in Europe?
Auto Bild in Germany has seen a concept for one, anyway.

Actually something arguably did come of the Visos concept. Slap a Volvo nose on the Visos and you have something very similar to the C30 hatch stylistically speaking. In fact, if you look at the Visos from the rear 3/4 you can see that the back half of the car is amazingly similar to the C30 hatch...at least IMO.

^^^^ You read my mind!!!
The Visos hit better on capturing the essence of a Capri with the oval quarter windows and the quater panel vent trim. However, the rear window and deck needs to revert back to a coupe profile. The front end needs a lot of work and the bodysides needs more scuplting detail. The rear needs taillamps with character.
I'm a BIG (European) Capri fan and have owened several. That orange thing might make a nice Ford coupe with a bit of work, but it's not true to the original Capri.
Remember when the Mustang was nearly replaced with the Probe? You guys did the right thing and demanded a new Mustang, not a FWD coupe that offered no respect to the original car. Unfortunately, in Europe, we bent over and accepted the death of the Capri. The Probe and, latterly, the Cougar, may have been OK, but they were never and could never be a true replacement.
What I'd love Ford to do would be to base a new Capri on the current (or next) Mustang platform. The two cars used to have so much in common, they could again.
Here's a Photoshop someone's done to turn the Mustang (actually a member's car here, I think) into a Capri. Needs work, but not bad for a 10 minute 'chop

For me, all they need to do is invert the current Mustang "hockey stick".....it looks a little lost ending aft of the rear wheel here.
Still, goes to show what could be done.
Heck, it's even possible to turn a Camaro into a Capri!

Once had a '73 V6 Capri, a rather sweet little 3/4 scale Euro-Mustang in a sense. Would love to see a new Capri to complement the Stang, either as a smaller, more sophisticated Euro-style Mercury stablemate along the lines of the Probe/recent Contour-based Cougar or perhaps as a slightly upscale chassis mate along the lines of the original Cougar or Fox-era Capri.
In the near term, I would see the former more likely as it would be sold in the European market too and a smaller FWD/AWD platform would probably do better there and I can't see Ford devoting much more $ into developing or expanding the D2C platform. In the longer term, post GRWD platform which I presume would be smaller and more sophisticated than the current Mustang's D2C platform, the second scenario might well play out.
