My "new" used Ford ...

Ever since I sold my F-150 few weeks ago (I loved it, but I'm never gonna buy another 10 mpg vechicle), I went looking for a more economical reliable transportation that I can use for winter driving.

I ended up buying this 2005 Ford Focus SES.

So far I only have these pictures from the ad, I'll take more pictures over the next few days.

I left it at the dealership overnight in order for them to take care of few things; I should get it back tonight.

I test drove many cars, both imports and domestics, and I felt this was a best buy. I hope I made a right decision.

Just curious, what kind of F-150 did you have that was only getting 10 mpg. Going from that to the Focus you'll be able to save enough to buy a new Mustang by the time 2015 comes out.

I had a 2005 SuperCab with a 4.6L and 4x4.

During the past few months, it was pretty cold in Wisconsin and I had to use 4x4 few times ... I was averaging about 10 mpg in city driving.

And trust me, I am not an aggressive driver; I mean, I'm averaging 38 mpg combined with my Honda Fit.

I don't think Mustang is for me anymore. The older I get, I would actually prefer a more quiet and comfortable car. The ideal new car for me would be the Lincoln MKZ or the new Lexus ES, they look great.

The 2011+ stang is super quiet and comfortable. I'm sure the 2015 will be more so.

Nice buy on the Focus! My 07 I had was an awesome car! i had a 5-speed 4 door sedan and was able to get 40mpg on hwy. Best trip ever was 42mpg over 180 mile trip. Most of the time I was in the high 30's though.

Why would you buy a Focus when you have a Fit though?

I've been avoiding Fit lately because it's ... well, uncomfortable. My brother started driving it (and he loves it) and the money that was supposed to be used for his new used car went towards the purchase of Focus.
So we're both happy.

I'm doing little driving right now and what I do is in gridlock, but I'm still managing over 20.

I always preferred the first generation Mazda3 to the Focus. The interior and dynamics made the Focus feel flat. That said, you can easily do some minor work to the Focus and make it handle just fine. Car looks clean, and the gas mileage improvement will be a welcome change.

Congrats and welcome to the Focus family!

Just be sure all recalls and tsbs has been rectified and you should be good to go.

Although we did encounter an issue in our first year of ownership (originally had 55k when we bought it) the ZX5 kept on dying when it had been driven extensively. New battery, motor mounts, fuel filter, battery terminals, alternator all repaired/replaced under ESP warranty and dealer couldn't find the root cause. Then a tech was finally able to replicate the problem, it was the IMR plate (?), once that was replaced, no issues since then (we're now at 78k miles).

MPG, 80 - 90% city we range about 260 - 280 on a tank and that includes my lead foot.

If your not already a member, register on focaljet.com (FJ), lots of good peeps (like here) on there and a plethora of info, diy's, etc. I'm a member, same handle as here.

I think you've had almost as many cars as I've had. just kidding. looks nice though, I started to get a focus rather than the Vic, the one I looked at had too many issues.
