My fathers 1971 Ford Mavrick Grabber

I know this may be random, but since the Maverick almost replaced the Mustang in the late sixties, I figured this had some relevance.

I posted some pictures of my fathers Ford Maverick. It's different from the ordinary muscle cars one usually sees...let me know what you all think..

That thing is sweet. Give us a little background. Has your dad owned it a long time? Did he restore it himself, or did he buy it this way etc.

That is beautiful.
That is the best Maverick I've ever seen.
Way cool.
Did he buy it brand new?

I had two Maverick's, a 74 and 75...both were rust buckets but they were **** near bullet proof. That's one fine Grabber your dad has there!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!

He bought it in North Carolina, we live up here in Rhode Island...besides some minor changes and modifications he bought it with most of the car already done. I guess the significant part about it is that according to the VIN it is a true grabber...here are some of the things I know it has;

302 crate motor
holley four barrel carb
edelbrock performer lower intake
ford nine inch rear with 4:10's

I know there is more, but thats off the top of my head...

The biggest problem is finding a Maverick that has a good body. The only way you can get fenders or quarters is if you have someone fabricate them. All the ones my dad looked at up here were all rotted out, and of course people want 3-4k for a carcus. He has had this one for a few years. He had owned an orange grabber when he was in his early twenties but had to sell it to buy a house before I was born, so I guess it brings back childhood memories...

Those photos were from a couple months back....since then, we bought the original front springs to raise the front a few inches, had the rear leaf springs re-arched, put in air shocks in the back, and cleaned up the engine bay...

God, that thing is beautiful. I'm an old fart so it's right from my era, so it brings back fond memories of high school days. Another question for ya. Do you know if that is the original color scheme? Course I'm kinda partial to blue and silver now.

According to the VIN, it is supposed to be some shade of blue, but not that particular color. The color the car is painted is similar to a sonic blue...my buddy has a 91 Mustang GT and the original color of his car is just about the same as this blue..

Yeah, has hardly ever drives it, it usually sits in the garage...the motor in it only has a few thousand miles on it, if that. But, whenever he does take it out, like for example a few Sundays ago, it draws alot of attention...We took our cars out and he went to get fuel and three different people came up to him and asked him all about the car while he was pumping gas...it was weird, like something from the twilight zone Haha

I could be wrong, I'd have to ask my dad, but I think they were available with C4's new?? This one has a tremec as far as I know... I know these cars were the poor mans Mustang, but he always like the looks of them...very basic basic cars...not even a glovebox!

I like it (and I don't really care for smog-era 70's cars!). I've only seen one rusting away on a lot, and the other was a Mercury Comet owned/driven by a little old lady - although I haven't seen it around for awhile. The photos you posted sure make me not mind having one, that's for sure. A "BOSS-ified" version would be sweet...

in the early 70`s in huntsville a man with some pull at the local ford dealor ordered a blue comet from detroit minus drive train .. had the ford dealor contract with a local hotrod shop to shoehorn in a real BOSS 302 crate motor and 4 speed .. one of a kind car that is rumored to still be in existance somewhere in mississippi ..mgreene on the rocket city mustang section has photo`s of this car .. if he reads this post he may post one or add more info about it ..
