Mercury Going The Way of The Dodo?
Was just a matter of time, Ford has long since allowed Mercury to wither on the vine (which seemed to be the plan all along).
Its a shame Ford could not have reinvented Mercury like GM has done with Buick and Cadillac. Treated right, Mercury might have been a good channel for Fords EU and OZ cars.

Most likely a matter of available resources and allocation. How would they make Mercury distinctive without taking goodies out of the Ford pipeline? And there's no point in Mercury simply being badge-engineered. That's just a long, slow road to death.
Mercury would have to be re-invented. It would become very niche, which would likely mean high-dollar, high-margin vehicles.
Wait, I think that is the plan for Lincoln.
Yeah, it's been a long, long time since Mercury had any distinctiveness.
A very long time since the "sign of the cat".

probably paying their spokesbarbie too much...
...or not enough, she was the best part of Mercury by far for the past few years!
I had a long conversation with the owner of the local Ford Lincoln-Mercury dealer yesterday.
He said the official decision will be made next month.
He said it is a done deal.
They closed their own Massachusetts Lincoln-Mercury only store (no Ford) last week.
.
He said he noticed the brand was being killed when they stopped making a small Mercury to compete against Honda,Toyota etc.
