Personally, I don't think RWD is the future of Lincoln...

Lincoln can't get RWD soon enough. Just hope they don't *bleep* it up.

They're cheap to built, since they share pretty much everything with Fords.

It would cost Ford much more to close Lincoln than to continue with the current strategy.

I think it is sad how I want to like Lincoln but can't do it. It is amazing how GM turned Cadillac around in the early 2000s while Ford just let Lincoln collect dust.

The last Lincoln I truly liked was the LS, I feel they should have refined it over time like Cadillac did with the CTS. The first Gen reminded me of the LS but then Cadillac added more refinement and made a truly great car.

I think Lincoln needs to make a RWD CTS competitior to be taken seriously.

So how would it cost Ford more money if they discontinue the Lincoln brand ? IIRC it didn't cost Ford more money when it decided to close it's Mercury division.. If anything it saved Ford money, as they were losing sales on it's entire Mercury line and the same is going to happen, If Lincoln doesn't follow in the same path GM went with Cadillac.. The reason why Lincoln's are cheap to build, is because they do share pretty much everything with Fords much in the same way that Mercury ended up as being just another bunch of re-bagged Fords as well

I have said this many times before, but I don't think the RWD is necessary.

Audi just outsold the Mercedes and at this rate they will outsell the BMW soon and will become world's largest automaker of luxury cars.
And they don't have a single RWD car.

Lincoln needs to make many changes, but switching to RWD is not one of them.
They need to be more different than Fords ... and, by the way, there is nothing wrong with being Ford based, but the design needs to be 100% different.
They need to focus more on luxury than sporty (because Lincoln has been doing that during their entire history) and they need to get rid of the ridiculous MK-nonsense naming strategy.
And, for the love of God, they need more models.
Lincoln currently has only 5 models and Audi has 11 - not counting that most of those 11 models are available as coupes, sedans, convertibles and wagons and they have multiple engine choices (few base engines, sporty S and performance RS) ... What does Lincoln has? One engine and one body style for each model.

You don't just shut down the brand without any costs.

It cost GM $2.5 billion to shut down the Oldsmobile.

Because there are contacts with dealerships and they're are contracts UWA backed factories ... You can't just close those without paying any money.

And there are big differences between Ford-Mercury and Ford-Lincoln ... Because Lincolns are little more than Ford with a different grille (a.k.a. Mercury).

This whole build up is "cart before the horse" stuff, which is getting old. I'd love to see an about face of new product, much like Chrysler did with their stuff when Fiat got involved. Start selling the image you keep marketing so badly.

General public just doesn't know...

They'll still sell over 80,000 cars this year. Which isn't great, but isn't 'sky is falling' mentality either, there's room to improve and with their national ad campagian, new company design & make up, and with a push more than ever - i'd think they can hit at least 100k in 13.

Little series off their website...

Yeah, Ford sort of let Lincoln whither on the vine while GM carefully cultivated Cadillac, with some impressive results overall. Perhaps Ford should simply copy Cadillac's playbook to get back into the game. Imagine the potential an LS SVT would have had.

Forget about being "American BMW/Audi" and continue to be what people know you for - "Poor man's Rolls Royce" ... So what if your customers are 90 years old? At least Lincoln had customers in the past.

Lincoln had the most success when they used to build boats like these ... They need to do the same thing again.

Problem with GM is outside of Cadillac they have d!ck.

Besides when Ford was looking ahead at staying alive and making decisions to do so, GM was going over the cliff.

Lincoln is never going to hang with bmw or audi. If they really want to be something again be something new and not a new version of a old failed plan.
