After a harddrive crash, I lost the full sized picture I did of my Lincoln MKY which was based on a Focus which was done as a joke. However I found it on a google thumbnail.

However, Lincoln outdid me with much more laughter. What a hideous design. The last thing I want to look at is some odd strange and ugly French looking city car.

I call it the Lincoln Town Clown Car.

Did they just take Audi's Shooting Brake Concept and Linc' afied it?

Yuck! And they were on a roll with the new MKZ and MKS, not to mention MKX

Though I do think this is pretty ugly, remember this is just a concept. How often has ford delivered on anything that is not a preproduction vehicle. If this ever gets made it will only keep a few styling cues and maybe the overall shape.
The most important thing here is the engine. How long until this sees duty in the focus and fusion? Is this possible going to be the "high-end" engine in the feista? Whatever it goes in it will produce great numbers all around. very nice. This should have come out before the 3.5 EB.

to me this car is all about the engine

"a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine backed by a dual-clutch PowerShift six-speed transmission and stop/start technology. Ford sees this turbocharged, central direct-injection four-cylinder as good for 180 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while returning an estimated 43 miles-per-gallon on the highway."

It sounds good on paper, but looks like crap. It might look good if they fix the roof.

What exactly is that thing supposed to be?

They're struggling for an identity, it seems. The new MKT interior, while impressive-looking in quality, borrows heavily from Cadillac's CTS and Lexus' IS designs, and departs from the family aesthetic established by the MKS and upcoming MKZ.

Very strange.

I get the feeling from the way they describe it and the way it (doesn't) come together that this concept was not a Lincoln until fairly late in it's execution. The way it's described and the way it looks suggests to me that this was their new direction for Mercury initially, and at some point the concept had to be re-nosed as a Linc when the plan to keep Merc around took a hit. This car fits almost perfectly with the idea of remaking Merc as a premium small-car brand, but that plan is either out or on life support.

I personally wouldn't take Linc down this route right now, there's still work to be done on the existing product line to get it in the sweet spot and I wouldn't want to break trail in this direction until the rest is set. Judging by how much they're shying away from discussing a possible production version of this at the show, I'd have to say we're seeing a cute concept for a dead product.

Let's not jump to conclusions it's only a concept and could go nowhere.

I think that Lincoln needs to follow this up with a production ready MKR.

In concept it may be a Lincoln, in production it would be a Mercury. This is an obvious teaser for the premim small car future of the Mercury brand.
