Moving to 'Other Fords' section . . . but will leave a link for a couple days.
My favorite part of the article.
My favorite part of the article.
Global product development chief Derrick Kuzak -- backed by Mulally -- countered: If Ford has a future, it depends on delivering a new generation of class-leading cars and trucks that people actually want to buy. They fought off every challenge to one of the most ambitious product plans ever put together, albeit at the cost of thousands of jobs.
We're only going to be in business if we create products that people really do want and value," Mulally told The Detroit News in an exclusive interview Tuesday. "This is the essence of creating a viable Ford."

Remember all of the opposition to Mulally because he wasn't part of the Detroit establishment? Now, he's the right leader at the right time and Bill Ford's gamble on him is paying off.
Perhaps those individuals should be shown the door? Another way to save money.
Exactly. And yet clearly some of the old guard remain >> "With gasoline prices falling, some argued that Ford should abandon its costly plan to retool North American truck factories to produce smaller, more fuel-efficient cars from Europe."

Expedition is currently outselling Taurus. Does that mean that Ford should kill Taurus too?
Expedition also outsold every Mercury, Lincoln and Volvo in 2008.

Singly...or collectively?
Meanwhile, let's see those numbers.

What I'm trying to say is that bigger SUVs might become popular again and it would suck if Ford have to spend money for development of new SUV just because they killed Expedition (and/or Explorer) now.

If you scrutinize the numbers you provided, you will see that compared to the smaller offerings in Ford's passenger car lineup like the Fusion and Focus, while all sales are down, Expedition sales are down about three times as much, amidst a downwards trend for all the truck/CUV/SUV vehicles. Ford needs to be paring those behemoths, not keeping them around anymore in a worsening economy.
