Moving to 'Other Fords' section . . . but will leave a link for a couple days.

My favorite part of the article.

Global product development chief Derrick Kuzak -- backed by Mulally -- countered: If Ford has a future, it depends on delivering a new generation of class-leading cars and trucks that people actually want to buy. They fought off every challenge to one of the most ambitious product plans ever put together, albeit at the cost of thousands of jobs.

We're only going to be in business if we create products that people really do want and value," Mulally told The Detroit News in an exclusive interview Tuesday. "This is the essence of creating a viable Ford."

Remember all of the opposition to Mulally because he wasn't part of the Detroit establishment? Now, he's the right leader at the right time and Bill Ford's gamble on him is paying off.

Exactly. And yet clearly some of the old guard remain >> "With gasoline prices falling, some argued that Ford should abandon its costly plan to retool North American truck factories to produce smaller, more fuel-efficient cars from Europe."

Perhaps those individuals should be shown the door? Another way to save money.

I suspect that discussion had to happen if only to discount it. I don't imagine Mulally will let it go any further or what you stated will happen.

I agree they should be shown the door. Most likely gas prices will be much higher this time next year.

Ford should invest in smaller cars, but they also should keep their truck and SUV lineup. I don't wanna see Explorer and Expedition go away.

Expedition is currently outselling Taurus. Does that mean that Ford should kill Taurus too?

Expedition also outsold every Mercury, Lincoln and Volvo in 2008.

Well, beating the current Taurus is like beating a one-legged man with a tricycle. All that proves is that the Taurus has been an abominable failure.

Singly...or collectively?

Meanwhile, let's see those numbers.

What I'm trying to say is that bigger SUVs might become popular again and it would suck if Ford have to spend money for development of new SUV just because they killed Expedition (and/or Explorer) now.

Fords already killing the Explorer by turning it into a crossover.

That's a bad strategy.

If you scrutinize the numbers you provided, you will see that compared to the smaller offerings in Ford's passenger car lineup like the Fusion and Focus, while all sales are down, Expedition sales are down about three times as much, amidst a downwards trend for all the truck/CUV/SUV vehicles. Ford needs to be paring those behemoths, not keeping them around anymore in a worsening economy.

Thats an interesting list of cars sold Zoran. But its skewed a little bit, in terms of percentages and here is why? The Freestar is still listed, and they haven't made that vehicle in a few years. And the Ford GT is still listed, and that stopped production Sept 2006. No kidding that those cars will have a HUGE negative loss in sales this year compared to last year. They should have used CURRENTLY produced cars in the grid. And why is there no numbers for the 2007 year for Edge. That vehicle came out in the winter of 2006, as a 2007 model!

I think you're looking at the wrong column. There are 2007 numbers for Edge, but not for Flex.
