Smells like a BS lawsuit to me. If its happened "thousands of times" wheres the proof. Plus if it hasn't even been brought to Ford's attention it just further screams "sue-happy jerk looking for some free cash."

Man people are so ridiculous now a days. Maybe this gentleman would do better by spilling hot coffee in his lap

Hopefully this twerp gets shot down in flames.

My Supercharged Harley F150 Spit a Plug at 30k. They Pulled the whole cab to put on a new Head. I do not know about calling it a safety issue but the heads do not have enough meat for the plugs to screw into.

Okay here's the scoop. I talked with our service manager about this. He's been with Ford since 1978. The only ones he's seen come out, NOT SHOOT OUT, like this prissy lawyer is trying to claim is out of a couple V8's in the older trucks. Ford has since put longer threads on the plugs and hasn't had any incidents whatsoever.

The issue is with peoplw who replace their own plugs not tightening them down as tight as they should thus allowing the plug to rattle. As long as you tighten them down to the correct amount of toruque they are fine.

05stangkc, I'm thinking that someone did not fully tighten everything as need be.

There is no such thing as them "shooting" out like this lawyer insist (not to mention probably can't tell you where the dipstick is).

So all in all this seems to be another case of a sue happy man crying wolf.

I've personally been through this with the 2000 GT I had. Plug worked its way loose and did "pop" or "shoot" out of the head. I had noticed a ticking sound the previous few times I drove it and thought it was an exhaust leak. It was a/f mixture leaking out around the plug with each compression stroke, due to the plug having backed itself out.

When the plug finnaly came out, the car made a loud pop and then started running rough as you could assume. The plug did come out with force, but was held in its plug opening by the COP pack. It never came out past the head. The plug was pushed back down by the COP pack which caused the ground strap on the plug to close completely. When I found the problem, we thought the piston had made contact with the plug somehow.

The problem is that with the aluminum heads on modular motors, there are only 3 threads cast into the head. Therefore if 1-2 of them are not in use, it puts thousands of psi on that one thread, and being aluminum, its not very strong.

My aftermarket warrenty company denied the claim and ford wanted 3k to put a new head on the car. I ended up having the spark plug thread Heli-coiled and rebuilt everything myself. It worked great.

I later found out, that I bought the car used, not from a Ford Dealer, but another dealer. They did a tune up and changed hte plugs. The warrenty company denied hte warrenty claim because the plugs that were in there, although the correct origional part #, were not origonal. The plugs when installed from the factory have a yellow dot painted on them to signify that. These did not so I got screwed in the end.

I've seen many cars on various boards have this problem, almost all are caused by improper installation of the plugs (I.E. not torqueing to spec).

Its not a safety hazard what so ever. It is a PITA though. If this lawyer wins this, its a sad day for the auto industry.

And I suppose if you get electrocuted becasue you try to change a lightbulb with the switch on you should sue GE?

99% of problems could be prevented by people knowing what they are doing.

Cody I think you hit the nail directly on the head.

Today's world is very different from what our parents knew. People will place blame on anyone or anything except for themselves.

Scott,
Thanks for the input man Next time you'll just have to buy from me so you know everything is kosher

Another case of people not owning up to thier own stupidity and looking to place blame. I know if I working on my plugs and one came out while driving the last thing I'd assume is ford messed up.
If a plug backs out then the issue is simple...USE THE CORRECT TOQUE SPEC!
If the thread striped andthe plug just ripped the threads to shreds coming out then i might think something was up on fords end.

I'm so bloody sick of lawyers.

and I'll end on a joke.

what's the difference between an lawyer and a catfish?
Ones a scum sucking bottom dweller and ones a fish.

no offense to any lawyers on the board

Ok, one more. What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A good start...

This did happen on my brothers Bullitt... but it also has a blower running 9psi...

Had the head tapped and uses some kind of spacer for the spark plug i think, but ran fine ever since.

People are so annoying with their dumb lawsuits.
