Last Ford Crown Victoria rolls off the line
http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/15/auto...oria/index.htm
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The last Ford Crown Victoria rolled off a Canadian assembly line Thursday, marking the end of the big, heavy Ford cars that have been popular with taxi fleets and police departments for decades.
Since 1979, almost 10 million Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Cars -- so-called Panther Platform vehicles -- have been sold.

They should have just updated the motor and body styling, Police , Taxis, and the general public would still be buying them, I think Ford Made a huge mistake trying to get Taurus to become a commercial car

A Man Just Needs Some....
This is pretty upsetting news. RIP Vic. I really hope Ford at least brings us 4dr rwd something in the near future. Now the only Ford car I would consider ever buying is the mustang. Maybe it's got something to do with government contracts and Chrysler is still under government rule.

As much as I appreciate what the Panther-platform cars have done in their Taxi and Police roles for decades, they were really crappy cars at the end there. Well built, but just completely outclassed by modern vehicles.

Is it wrong to want the last years Crown Vic in all black just so I can call it the Sex Panther?
Srsly though. Red Star kind of hit the nail on the head with if it ain't broke. While the young generation is looking into the more progressive vehicles I feel there is still a place for these cars.
I started a blog that is very much in infancy but one of my goals is to kind of educate people on how the automobiles influenced life in America. One of those points should be the family car. We had an 80s Buick Regal and a 95 Caprice. My dad still goes on about the Caprice. Some people are just looking for that down home simple reliability no longer offered by Cadillac, Olds, Lincoln or just about anyone else.
Hearing about the demise of a platform for several years? Honest to god some days I forgot they made these cars past 8 years ago. I should have scooped one of these up for my grandpa. He looks like he's getting an ulcer every time he gets into his Accord.

I loved my two crown Vics both cop cars. The first a 1991 LTD with a 351W. That was my first car and was one hell of a beast! Even beat up a 05 GT and man that was a great car!! It had the comfiest seats in the world, it was like sitting on your living room sofa and the steering wheel I was able to turn it with my pinky. Now that was a GREAT car!!! I hope to own another one just like that again
My second was an Old NY State Trooper Car a 2003 with I forget how many miles on it but **** that thing was a great car!! I cant even tell you how many people I had pull themselves over for no reason to the point that I was afraid I would get pulled over for impersonating a cop. For 3k it was GREAT car!! It got me from point A to point B safely which was great and I loved the styling on them. Unforunatley a drunk driver going the wrong way down a one way road resulted in a fried transmission with no first gear and barely a reverse gear
RIP Panther you did the job better than any car out there

No more Ranger!
No Crown Vic
No more REM
and Fiat is Re introducing
the 500
this is a sign of the End Times
That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
I am getting my tin foil hat on.

Through in a detuned 5 liter and a six speed auto in the vic and it would be good to go for police and taxi duty. I may be wrong but I dont see the Taurus and Explorer ever holding up long term like the vic and when they break its going to be more expensive to fix. WaY more expensive. FWD/AWD is not going to be cheap when you start jumping curbs ect.. Time will tell as always.
I am still Po'ed about Ford letting the Ranger rot and then killing it.

The current Impala is a FWD pile of crap. At least the Caprice is GM's way of seeing what works and what doesn't. The Taurus is a nice car, and if they stick with the Ecoboost/AWD combo, it's going to be a surprise for most companies.
I know most of the time I see the Mich. State Police cars, they use Chargers, but I think they only use the V6 model. This would be a golden opportunity for Ford to import the Falcon platform and build at the Panther plants, reduce costs, and ultimately use it for duty in a sporty RWD car in the future.
