Kyles '64 Falcon Econoline Clubwagon Deluxe Project

Well I've got another project allready!
Last summer I had a friend of mine in Boise ID call to tell me of a craigslist deal on bumpers for my mustang in the area, I live a couple hours away from there so I had him pick them up and store them for me at his dads house untill I could come pick them up. Well a couple of weeks later I was in the area and stopped in to pick them up and I spotted this golden nugget nestled in the over growth:Kyles '64 Falcon Econoline Clubwagon Deluxe Project-1a3eb56a.jpg

My wife had been wanting a VW bus but my blood is a little too blue to go for that so I asked my friends dad and he said I could just have it!...long story short it actually belonged to my friends grandpa and he wanted $400 for it. I told him I couldn't pay for it on the spot but I were to put the front axle back under it if it would show him I serious enough about it where he would clean his junk out of it and get it ready for me to come back in a couple months...well:

It has come along way since it was sitting in that field when I found it it was sitting on it's body (no rust from that though ) and had two 200ci motors as well as many rims and hubcaps. Since I've brought it home I've cleaned it up the best I could and only found some rust on the side cargo doors but it's a nice flat panel that will be easy to cut out and weld in, the master cylinder was seized, I'm currently fabbing some radiator brackets on an old falcon radiator from a junkyard cause the other one was leaky. I've got to get a new steering link, and I plan on replacing all the wheel cylinders soon. Good news though after sitting for over 20 years with a sip of gas down the carb it purred like a kitten, and got oil pressure

I don't know if anyone will be interested in this type of project but I'm really stoked to get this thing on the road

Great project.

I just noticed you're from Twin Falls. I lived there for 3 years (1999-2002), I still miss that town and cruising on Blue Lakes with my '00 Mustang. Good times.

So I just bought some bolts and like a million washers to space the radiator how I need, what do you all use when you need to space bolts? Also I know a need a pressure switch that connects between my electric fuel pump and my oil pressure sending unit has anybody had to wire this before? Because I don't understand quite how that setup works any help would be appreciated!

So the radiator went in like a breeze which is a first for any of my fab jobs, and figured out the whole fuel pump situation. Can you believe they wanted $450 for a new econo radiator!?!

I had one of those sixes in the '68 Falcon I had before my first Mustang. That was a good running, faithful little engine. I was able to take care of everything on it.

Update: I've been broke but I'm getting some money back on my taxes, so I'm ordering a new master cylinder. I just peeled off all of the drums to see what the damage would be and the shoes all have around 80% life In them still and all the wheel cylinders appear to be in good shape as the boots were all in good condition and there was minimal rust. But I guess we will know for sure when my master cylinder gets here. I also had to order new front brake lines because the previous owner was going to rob the front axle to lower a project of his own, and cut the lines instead of unfastening them. That's it for now I just wanted to let you all know that even though I'm broke and lazy, this project is still happening

Today I tore out my gauges so I could gain access to my headlight switch which was missing ! So I ordered a new switch. Weird thing is that it plugs directly into the fuse box, is that normal? I also bought and installed new headlights. My master cylinder and brake lines arrive tomorrow. So if things go smoothly I may take a drive around the block!

Keep at it... This is a nice project as I love the really old school stuff, especially if it is a restoration of something that is not typical!

So I was very busy today, unfortunately my master cylinder didn't arrive today but it's just as well because there was two inches of new snow on the ground this morning. First thing this morning I picked up my new switch for the headlights and the thing was a monster! After searching around for a while looking for the light bezel and other hardware and I actually found everything I needed!. I was wanting to get it running an up to temperature for the first time so I replaced all the rubber fuel line and got a new filter. The previous owner had told me this thing went through fuel pumps like crazy so he put in a "mopar" electric fuel pump in it lol after a few inadvertent gulps of gas getting the pump primed, I finally got the fuel flowing and hooked the line to the carb and I couldn't get it to squirt, I checked the needle and seat and it was fine. I determined that it's most likely the accelerator pump, so I picked up a carb kit this evening. (btw I put a tablespoon of gas down the carb again this evening and it would fire instantly without any drama.) that's it for now until I get my parts in the mail. Attached are a few picks of the headlight switch and the results

I did it! I finally rebuilt my first carb without any help from my dad! I always watched him when I was younger rebuilding them, thinking it was something I could never do but I did it and could not be more satisfied with myself! It's dark now and I'm busy all day tomorrow but tomorrow evening I'll see how bad I messed up when I bolt it on.

Your not a real man unless you can rebuild a carburetor... Congrats on your rite of passage... LOL!

I had made arrangements for an older guy I knew to come by and walk me through it but he wasn't available until next weekend, I was feeling antsy and courageous and took it half apart then chickened out and put it back together, a half hour later, I came back with a little bit more courage and did the whole job this time lol. I found the culprits were a bad accelerator pump, and the ball and weight or whatever it's called was stuck. Ty man.
