That's sad, the Ranger is the only small/mid-size truck left as the full size pickups getting bigger and bigger the mid-size trucks are now the size of the 'old' full size.

Maybe looking like Tacoma is not a bad thing. Tacoma is best selling mid-size truck on the market.

Someday, maybe I'll figure out what Ford was thinking.
I've always thought the Ranger was the best "bang for the buck" truck on the market.
Ah well. I've got my 2007 Ranger Sport. I'll just have to hang onto it for 20 years and 300000+ miles like I did my 88.

Yeah, and it's also part of one of the companies killing the U.S. domestic automakers.

There was a time when the perceived quality of the japanese imports was better but that's not the case anymore. Regardless of what owners claim they're as blind to their shortcomings as we are to the shortcomings of our favored rides.

How secure can you feel in a truck that gets recalled for wheels falling off because of bad wheel bearings? Or about faulty steering or airbags failing to deploy in a popular hybrid? Ask Toyota about those.

I really could care less about sales numbers to be honest. A lot of people love Wal Mart but that doesn't make it the best store to shop at nor is it always the best value. In fact they're a big part of how China can dump cheap goods on the U.S. and further depress our economy.

Besides, imports are notorious for having horrible resale. What is an infinity G35 worth after 5 years, not as much as the equivalent Lincoln or Cadillac, that's for sure.

Short sighted thinking is the problem. Quick fixes that's all anyone wants anymore. Well, the fruits of that kind of thinking are coming home to roost now. Hope there's a Ford left to buy a new Mustang from in 10 years....

Please tell me that you're kidding. I saw 4 years old Town Car for $10,000 and 4 years old Navigator for $20,000. Imports have best resale value on the market especially Honda and Toyota.

Thats just wrong, rangers are great little trucks...

My current vehicle is a '93 ranger, 4cyl with a manual trans and over 230k miles, it still runs great and gets about 28 mpg.

Not around here they don't. Maybe in Wisconsin they do but down here big trucks and SUV's rule the market. As for the Town Car, yeah well did you stop to check the mileage, rust etc. I can go buy an 05 loaded GT for 10K too so long as it's been wrecked and fixed twice, has 100K on it and has faded paint.

And forgive me but I've heard that last line way too many times in Honda commercials. Doesn't make them any better and it sure as heck doesn't help to keep spreading the propoganda. Automakers (on both sides admittedly) can twist numbers any way they want. By the way, ever tried to buy parts for an import out of warranty? I did, try 120 bucks for a used coil for a Toyota Truck.

Yeah, best resale, that's about as useful as the JD Power initial quality award.

The only thing propping up import sales is the belief that they're somehow more fuel efficient. It's a crock. I traded my 96 Camaro with 148K on the clock and still had the orginal powertrain and it ran like clockwork. I also got between 28 and 30Mpg with it! It had a 3800 V6 and didn't wait for anyone. I was pulling 30MPG 12 years before anyone even cared! Resale for it was between 5K on the low end and 8K on the high with the mileage I had an low options! That's a freakin' base model! Right there with the Supra prices, if I pull up the Z28 and Trans Am numbers add 2 to 5K depending on options! The only reason thet equivalent GT comes in lower is numbers. Higher production numbers translates to more supply than demand which naturally drives prices down. Simple economics, not a judgement on quality or reliability.

This is what I mean about domestics needing to promote their products better. Everyone still thinks Hondas and Toyotas are better. Not anymore they're not as anyone on this board will likely tell you. Toyota used to have the 100K program where you'd contact them at 100K and tell them your happy story about how much you loved your little tin hauler. So what did Ford and GM do? Pretty much they did nothing aside from changing colors every few years.

Then came the late 80's and early 90's and they started pushing big trucks. I submit big trucks got popular because people were sick of the me-too front drive offerings and felt safer with RWD and more sheet metal around them than the imports were offering. That same thinking is why the imports are building bigger cars and trucks now. Good let them, So when we all switch to lighter, faster, safer and more fuel efficient cars the imports can start feeling the pinch.

Where exactly did you saw '96 Supra for $5,000-$8,000? Please tell me because I wanna buy 2 right away and then sell them and make $20,000 profit overnight.

2005 Mustang GT for $10,000???

Ford's resale value is horrible (there are exceptions like Mustang and PSD trucks). I saw '04 and '05 Taurus for under $8,000, I can even get few years old Focus for that much. Heck, I even saw brand new Crown Victoria for under $15,000.

I'll take 3 of those $5k - $8k '96 (turbo) Supras, please. Then sell them and get something decent!

Why does Ford decide to kill off "the last one standing" in the compact pickup truck segment? There are people out there who don't need a hulking, thirstier, truck for their hauling, work, or transportation needs.

Last year's Infiniti G35 coupe had the highest resale value in the industry for any mass-produced consumer vehicle.

No Lincoln or Caddy has a higher resale value than Infiniti. I do hope the new CTS will change that to some extent, however.

Umm, what about the XLR-V? Starts at 100K and will defintely out-resale any mass produced Infinity.

And even though they're out of production, a Ford GT will always be worth more than a Nissan Skyline GT-R. It has to, ones a real race car the other is a weird looking road race copy of a 350Z. 2006 GT's still going for around 140K, GT-R for 2009, 75K by the way.

Was wrong about the Supra, must have been stuck back when it was just a high optioned Hatchback Celica GT upgrade. Guess there's lots of people with more money than sense. Sorry if I offend current owners but this is a Mustang board after all.

Well, you're talking about the most expensive Cadillac, so it's starting out at a much higher price. However, the same rule applies: percentage depreciation on the Caddy (yes, even the XLR-V) will be greater than on an Infiniti. Hopefully future Caddys like the new CTS will reverse that trend...but it will take time.

Well, now we're talking a low-volume, hand built supercar here - naturally it will be worth more than any Infiniti.
