I drove the EcoBoost F-150

Went to the Drive F-150 event today in So Cal. It was pretty awesome. They had simulators, video games, towing challenges and drag racing. There were the 3.7, ecoboost, 5.0, and 6.2L F-150s. They also had the 4.3 and 5.3 Chevys and the 5.7 hemi ram for comparison.

I raced against a 5.0 F-150 in an ecoboost and vice versa. They're pretty much neck and neck in a straight line.(I'll post up the slips in a sec). The ecoboost is QUIET and super comfortable. The 5.0 felt like it had more torque and less nannies cotrolling your driving. I had a ton a wheel spin in the 5.0 but started smooth in the ecoboost. Could be due to the trannies? I noticed the 5.0 had a column shifter, while the ecoboost had one like the auto in the stang. All in all both were great trucks and I was pretty impressed. Ford put on a good and family friendly event.

I asked one of the reps if ecoboost would be in a mustang (I had to lol) and he said roush had a mule with 700hp in it. FWIW

EDIT: Actually in my first race, I drove an ecoboost against a base 3.7. And I lost I guess there's no career in drag racing for me! Sorry, it was my first time ever doing a drag race.

Second time I raced an ecoboost and I was in a 5.0

New Explorer was there too. I'm working on getting the slips up, but I don't have a scanner and its not coming out clear on my cell camera. I'll probably just type them up...

Are you sure he wasn't talking about the Roush with the 6.2 in it? that one was 700hp i believe.

Just so you know the Column shifter vs console is due to the trim level of the truck not the engine.

XL, XLT and stuff have Column, your FX4, Lariat, Platinums have the console shifter.

Very cool you got to drive all those!

It sounded great! That was actually one of the first things I noticed while waiting in line.

Thanks for clearing that up Knight. I thought they had different trannies or something. I also love that screen in between the gauges. Pretty trick!

He could have been talking about the 6.2L, that would make more sense. Maybe I just heard what I wanted to hear lol.

I typed up the slips and added them to the OP. Don't laugh at my times!

I can't help but laugh when i see you lost to a 3.7 when driving an ecoboost

The ecoboost trapped 1.5mph better then the 5.0 in the 1/8th so it could be decently faster as it kept going.

I would if it got significantly better gas mileage. You definitely aren't losing any performance with it. You're only losing the V8 sound, but the ecoboost didn't sound bad

It was super short. I originally thought it was an 1/8 but you're right the times don't match up. Your guess is as good as mine.

I think Ford made it a short track to reduce the stress on the engines. These trucks were running consecutive runs with pretty much no cool down. And the line didn't stop either.

Yeah, 6.5 in the 1/8th is FAST. A 6.5 run in the 1/8 would be trapping over 100mph

lol, your right, I didn't even think about it. I just knew it wasn't a 1/4 and assumed 1/8.
