Ford's reinvention is taking shape - All-new Focus starts rolling off the line
Engineers and quality team leaders look over the ninth 2012 Ford Focus test model on July 21, 2010, at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne. (ANDRE J. JACKSON/DETROIT FREE PRESS)
A new global Focus on the way
The first batch of pre-production Focus compact cars are coming off the assembly line at the Michigan Assembly Plant, which has been under construction to build the new Focus for months.
Workers at the factory are assembling about a half-dozen cars per day that are drivable, but won’t be sold to the public. Those cars will help Ford smooth out the production process and ensure the quality of the new car.
“We’re building finally,” Plant Manager Rob Webber said. “We are done talking about it so much and now we are actually building.”
Meads of Ypsilanti said the new Focus has all different parts than the outgoing Focus, which is still being built at the neighboring Wayne Assembly Plant, as well as a more exciting design.

yes it is!.. still waiting for the build and price to show up... I'd honestly rather have this than the fiesta... but i fear the pricing will be too far off so they don't dampen fiesta sales.

They ought to just paint these test vehicles a few shades of primer gray, slap on some Bondo here and there, add a cheesy product sticker or two and voila, it would melt into the vast swarm of ragged-out Ricers / Trailer Trash sleds puttering about. With the "camo" paint and bras most development cars use, they might as well follow them with the Goodyear blimp piping brass band music out the speakers and piloted by a topless Angelina Jolie.
That all said, great, if greatly belatedly, that Ford N.A. is f i n a l l y coming out with a new Focus. Looks to be a fine car and can't wait to see the hotted up versions.

1 - most of these cars were already Cammo'ed up and its more of a pain to re-paint them than to just leave them. Witness the prominently displayed blue ovals, which you wouldn't see if they were really trying to keep these a mystery.
2 - It's a subtle form of advertising. Random guy on the street won't notice a non-cammo'ed 2012 Focus, but they'll remember seeing the camouflage and might do some digging to figure out what they saw.

Focus ST set to debut in October . . . in Paris. I hope we get the ST. I'm thinking about purchasing a new Focus 5-Door if it fits my needs as a daily driver and an ST would add another layer.

A wagon ST would be perfect . . . but I doubt we will be seeing a wagon version in the States.

The next Focus ST will be getting a new EcoBoost engine to replace the rather thirsty 2.5 liter, turbocharged 5-cylinder unit of the previous ST and the current Focus RS.
That engine would likely be an uprated variant of the 2.0 liter turbo EcoBoost with 200 bhp (149 kW) seen in the current Mondeo, Galaxy and S-Max models. That power plant could be tuned to around the 250 bhp mark to match the likes of the Renault Sport Megane 250 and the Golf R with its 266 bhp.
An RS variant of the next-generation Focus could also be derived from that 2.0 liter turbo EcoBoost, dialed up to around the 300 bhp mark.

...and with the release of a ST variant, perhaps this will leave the door open for a proper future Focus RS with AWD and more power. But would actually prefer a Fiesta RS with AWD and more power. Either way, sell them here!
