Ford's Duratec 3.0 V6's pedigree

I read something interesting about the Duratec 3.0L V6 on Wikipedia:

. The primary engineering input came from Porsche, who were developing a similar V6 before selling the engineering to Ford, and Cosworth, who helped with cylinder head manufacturing.
Ford and Cosworth go back a long way, but the Porsche part is something I've never heard before. Is this true or just a rumor?

With all the complaints by the automotive press about this engine being "thrashy" "underpowered" etc. I wonder if they would change their tunes if they knew this engine was engineered by Porsche?
