Ford North America still lost money, but not nearly as much as last year.
Ford North America: In the second quarter,Ford North America reported a pre-tax loss of $279 million, compared with a pre-tax loss of $789 million a year ago. The improvement primarily reflected favorable net pricing and cost reductions, partially offset by lower volume net of mix. Revenue was $18.8 billion, down from $19.1 billion for the same period a year ago

What's more important than the profit IMO, is that U.S. market share actually increased:

It also reported that its U.S. market share rose to 15.6 percent for the quarter from 15.1 percent in the first quarter. The share had been dropping. It was 16.7 percent in the second quarter of 2006.

Whatever you or I may think of Mulally he has not been at the company long enough to have much to do with this. We have seen a decent portion of his visions for the brand, but fiscally he remains an unkown.

I believe this mild recovery is about product. We see many new good products on the lots and I believe there are still more to come. Obviously management needs to continue to focus on blocking and tackling, but without new, best of breed product in showrooms, this won't be sustained.
I remember reading somewhere that Expedition and Escape sales are way up. Mustang and F-150 are flat right now. I believe the introduction of the updated Mustang (2010 we all believe) and the new F-150 will keep this thing rolling. Bring in the Interceptor we can buy and a REAL small car (no offense to Focus fans) and things should really start to click.
