Just wait and see. This move will propel Ford to the front ranks of the automotive industry. People will come from all over to witness its greatness. It will be heralded as a beacon of hope across the universe!

OK, maybe I'm overselling this move a bit, but you know what I mean.

Depends on definition of failure.

But I'm pretty sure it will be lowest seller in Ford's car lineup.

Ford's car lineup is in the midst of transforming before our eyes. Much of it will be Euro-inspired, if not outright designed. So to say this particular Mercury will fail is to assume all of the new Ford will fail.

Which is the same as saying Mulally doesn't know what he's doing.

I, for one, think he does.

Future Fords will be like current Saturns: cars that many like, but only few buy.

I really wanna be wrong about this, but I don't think I am. Time will tell.

Better than the present equation: cars that few like, and even fewer buy. A fresh start is what is needed now. After exhausting every other strategy, this is the only chance they have left, IMHO.

As you said: time will tell.

Lets all hold our joygasms/critigasms until we have some more info other than "it's being designed by FoE." What vheicle it is, how much of the FoE design which carries over hereh and what the price range is all effect how it'll do over here.
