Thanks for sharing,
But I must say this pisses me off to no end!! !! Our economy is going right down the toilet! And the sad thing is its not just people losing good jobs, their home, their way of living; this is our heritage we are losing! What the heck is going on with this with the US government ? Are they blind, or are they so tied up in controlling the whole darn world that they lost every since of what is going on right at home! We are falling apart and NO one in our government is getting it. Eventually, the only jobs that are going to be around are service/retail jobs, such as Wall Mart, BK, crap jobs like that pay just above minim wage… Soon everyone will be forced to buy cheap foreign cars & trucks because we won’t be able to afford anything else, and this will just fuel the problem.. Remember this BUSH; Manufacturing is the ONLY way to bring money into the US economy.
This is just my thought coming from a mechanical/manufacturing engineer.

While I do not disagree with you, the government can not force the average consumer to buy American. As long as the imports share of market keeps increasing, the US manufacturing sector will decrease. This does not just apply to the automotive industry.
Ford has lost 10% of its share of the US market over the past 20 years while the imports have gaind that and then some. When I started in the business, i did not have to worry about foreign competition. We are in the hometown of Deere and Company. They are in the same predicament except they still have a good share in their industry. Talking to some of the middle managers on occasion, they are concerned about foreign competition but if you go to their corporate parking lot or to the parking lot of the large combine factory in town, what do you see ; import cars and trucks; especially at the corporate HQ. I'm not talking a few but over 50%.
US manufacturers make entry level cars and trucks but that segment has been taken over by Kia and Hyundai.
I wish I had a solution but I don't. Just my .02 worth.

WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT DOING ABOUT IT?
WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT IS A BETTER QUESTION!
we here in america are far to complacent and dont want to work hard or long to achive things, look at countrys like china where a shoe manufacture can have employeed live in company housing and work for 20 dollars a week, or at medical companys, they can sleep at thier work stations! the countries are kicking our hiney's.
in 1979 my dad retired from ford as a engineer at that time the PACKAGE value ( medical, dential, payroll) to a person who sweeps the plant ( custodian) was close to 30 dollars a hour , know i have worked as a maintnence man for year, and i tell you it is rediculos to think that the custodian is job worth 30 dollars a hour.
in 1979 because the unions had the auto industry bent over and the pay scale was so rediculus when FORD would announce it had 50 jobs to fill 10,000 people would show up to apply!
so it will change when you greedy people who are not willing anymore to work hard , lose everything and realize the problem was caused by you!
