With compact vehicles gaining popularity, many automakers are rethinking their large SUV strategies, and developing compact crossover that offer utility and fuel-efficiency. American automakers are also looking closely at the so-called b-segment of low-cost cars to combat the economy offerings from Asian brands like Scion. Last week, Chrysler unveiled the 2007 Dodge Hornet Concept, a b-segment crossover likely to see production in the next few years. According to a report by Edmunds, Dodge is not the only American company considering a boxy Scion competitor. Ford has reportedly revived its 2004 Bronco Concept, with production set for late 2008. The 2009 model would be priced below $10,000 according to the report.

i wouldn't be surprised if some of the media saying this stuff might be confusing the bronco concept with the synUS concept. The bronco seemed a lot bigger, i believe it was based on the escape platform, while the synUS was based on the b-segment fiesta. What i've heard is ford'll have both a regular b-segment car, plus a crossover on the same platform. They could tack the bronco nameplate onto that, but i doubt it would be anything like that beefy concept we saw.

The bronco is very small as well, a B-class compact. The SynUS really got no excitement other then people asking 'what happened to the bronco?'.

As long as the Bronco stuck to its roots and was a rugged vehicle capable of going off-road, then I think it would be a hit.

I don't think it will make much of a dent if they build it as a wannabe cutesy SUV, Ford has enough of those. They should build it as competition to the Wrangler, throw a stout small diesel in there as well

ford definitely doesn't have anything to compete with wrangler's, fj cruisers and xterras, that's for sure. to me though, if they wanted to go after true off-roaders, wouldn't they want something a little bigger? I'm all for small cars, but i just can't picture an off roader the size of a fiesta.
Okay, i just looked at the concept, it is really small. Would people in the market for an off roader want something that small though? Or would it just be people who want a small car wanting tough looks?

Might be a good companion for my Tungsten GT!

If it was at least SIMILIAR to the concept, I'd consider that for a third vehicle.

i stand corrected, looks like the new bronco will be a tiny truck.
Everybody on autoblog is complaining about the bronco name and its reputation and all that. Here's what i wrote on there.

People who actually take their cars off road are a ridiculously small minority. Think about it. And also realize that people who read and talk about cars on the internet are also a pretty small minority. I'm sure Ford realizes it'll be exquisite feeling release of liquid waste product off a bunch of old timer bronco fans, but they probably realize those people wouldn't do much for sales. Ford isn't worried about ruining the reputation of the bronco name, because sales of the original Broncos won't do much for them now. All they care about is making a car that'll sell a lot now, and giving it a storied name like Bronco will only boost the sales, regardless of reputation
FJ cruiser is a darn cool car, especially for people on car websites who care about off road performance and stuff like that. But how many people will buy that car for its off road capability, and how many people won't even take that thing off the pavement but just buy it cause it looks cool. Ford is making a smart move in my opinion.

Smaller than Escape?
Or can we expect something similar in size like Bronco II?

I doubt it will look like the concept for $10k.... Hopefully but I doubt it, if they said $20k I'd be a believer. I wish they would throw the diesel motor in it though, heck these little Toyota trucks in the desert with diesels rock!!!
