Looks fantastic , but $45K AND buyer responsible for importation through US Customs, EPA and DOT is a little rich!

I'm pretty sure the DOT needs 5 donor cars for testing before the model can be sold legally. Then theres the issue of insurance. This is gonna end up just like all the R34 Skylines that were "legally imported" and then confiscated by Customs.

It has been purchased!

http://jalopnik.com/5464201/viva-los...xican-focus-rs

Jorge, the GM at the Car One Ford dealership in Monterey Mexico, very nicely called me that night and explained the complexities of the importation process and offered me the opportunity to back out of the transaction. I told him that I was aware of the cost and the time the importation process required, but was still very enthusiastic about the purchase. He said that Ford had imported just one batch of the RS's and that customers could not special order them, nor were they importing anymore. He said that his dealership would 100% stand behind the car regardless of where it was driven and that he was happy to help in any way he could with the importation process. I spoke with Jorge again today and we will complete the transaction tomorrow. He seemed incredibly excited and helpful on the phone and we laughed that it would be easier and cheaper to buy a Ford GT than to import this RS, but that the RS was far more exclusive and exciting than the GT. He said that the RS drew a tremendous amount of foot traffic on his showroom floor and that he would miss the car.

This is pretty much the reason why RS is not sold in the USA. Not many people would pay that kind of money for a Focus, even a 300 hp one.

I don't see why having the car registered in Mexico and driving it over here would be a problem. Then again, i'm so used to seeing Mexican plates everywhere I probably just don't know better.

You probably should get your facts straight before posting on this subject.

Let's take a look.

If Ford ever decide to sell Focus RS in the USA, it would probably compete with Impreza Sti. Sti starts at $35,000, so Focus RS would probably be priced around $32,500 or so (because Focus does not have AWD). That is the same price that Ford charge people for 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 Premium.

How many people would actually pay $32,500 for a Focus instead of a Mustang? How many people would pay $32,500 for a Focus period? Not many.

There are people out there who believe Ford could be selling Focus RS for the same price as MazdaSpeed3. There is no way Ford could sell Focus RS for $23,000 and still make a profit (and the last thing they need right now is to loose money). This is the car that cost 36,000 euros (or close to $50,000) in Europe. And people actually pay that kind of money for a Focus in Europe.

Next RS may be Hybrid and AWD . . . . Also costs will be lower due to global production lines.
