F-350 question

Why does the traction control turn off when you switch to 4wd high. I know that when you are stuck in snow you should turn the TC off, so does that mean you should only flip to 4wd when you are stuck, or should it be used when there is light snow on the ground?

I've been driving four wheel drive Ford trucks since the early 80's, my current 4x4 is a 2005 F-450. All of my trucks have had limited slip rear ends and manual locking hubs by my choice. When I suspect low traction conditions, snow, ice or off road I lock the front hubs, and leave the transfer case in 2wd high. I Never engage my transfer case into 4x4 until I detect tire slipping that would warrant it. Since I have gone through the very enlightening and expensive process of rebuilding a transfer case, I am very selective about NOT using 4x4 on dry pavement or in good tractions situations.
