F-150 to get 3.7 in 2011

www.pickuptrucks.com is reporting that the 2011 MY will get the same 3.7L V6 as the base Mustang. Story here:

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/01...ford-f150.html

and here (from AutoBlog):

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/12/r...to-2011-f-150/

Ford removed the V6 option after the 2008 model year.

Sounds good to me.

So if I understand this right the F150 gets the 3.7 V6 and the 5.0 V8 in the coming year.
The 6.2 V8 is available in the SE Raptor only.
The Super Dutys will get the 6.2 V8 and the new Scorpion diesel.

Does that sound right?

Zoran, don't get your hopes up anytime soon. That motor was shelved (not killed, but shelved indefinitely) due to the gas prices and the subsequent rise in diesel fuel. It may come, but not anytime soon.

Knowing Ford they'll probably wait until Toyota Tundra 1500 gets a diesel engine before they take anything seriously.

I am game for a 3.7 V6 in the F150. If they can get fuel economy up to 17-18 mpg in the city and 24-25 hwy would be great. Now, what I really want is the F100...about the size of my 96 F150 with a crew cab option...especially if you can get that 3.7L with 305 hp and get closer to 30 mpg hwy! A guy can dream!

Red Star (IMO) I think it's the other way around. Toyota has been copying the F-150 for years now. I have an '09 Platinum (one NICE truck) and for 2010...."ta da"...Toyota is coming out with their Platinum package Remember the T100... The one exception would be the powertrain options - but the new for '09 6 speed auto tranny is awesome. Keeps the 5.4 in it's powerband much better than the old 4-spd. The F-150 is also due to get the 6.2L engine - either in 2011 or 2012 which is great for some. But the 5.4 is pleny powerful for me in a truck. It has good pickup and plenty of torque...just rambling anyway

Rogue - I would like to see Ford upgrade the Ranger into the size truck you are describing...that would really be the truck for me as I use my F-150 mostly for freeway driving and Home Depot runs.

Ford is coming out with 6.2L three to four years after Tundra got 5.7L, which is a lot more powerful.

I've been reading a lot about F-150 and everybody is complaining about 5.4L's power since it's a very heavy truck.

It took Toyota some time to build a good full-size truck, which is exactly why is so ridiculous that Ford is coming out with new 6.2L three to four years after Tundra got 5.7L.

It's not just Tundra, it's been the same story with other vehicles too. Cars like 2011 Fiesta and 2012 Focus should've been on the market 4-5 years ago.

Better now than never, I guess. I don't think anyone can look at Ford now and say "same ol'."

Don't forget that its already been confirmed that the F150 will receive the ecoboost V6. I thought it was late 2010 model year?

Im wondering if these ecoboost plans are also shelved. The new MKX was supposed to recieve the 3.5 ecoboost and instead they decided on the 3.7. Not sure if the Edge Sport will still get the ecoboost, but it doesnt look promising either.

A EcoBoosted 3.5 V6 with the tq/hp of a V8 would make more sense in such a heavy vehicle.

True, but it's a turbo engine and they're never as durable as NA engines.
