Billionaires Bernard Arnault and Albert Frere are considering a bid for Aston Martin, the luxury automaker that Ford has put up for sale, the Financial Times reported Friday.
The two announced this week that they would form an investment fund of up to 1 billion euros ($1.25 billion) and that they are "looking at Aston Martin," the Financial Times quoted a person "close to the pair" as saying.

Arnault is chairman, chief executive and controlling shareholder of luxury goods retailer LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA; its brands include Louis Vuitton and Fendi.
I think a 1.25 billion dollar offer would reveal wether Mulally agrees with the decision made before his tenure at Ford to sell the British brand. If the brand is to be sold I would be very surprised if 1.25B wouldn't get it.
Not sure where I stand on this. I Love Aston Martin, and would love for it to stay a Ford brand.
But $1.25billion could do alot of good elsewhere. I just hope that IF they do sell it, the new owners make sure the cars stay as majestic as they have always been.
*sigh* I have some faith in Mulally. We'll see how it goes.

But, given recent developments I wouldn't be surprised to see AM stay, which is why I am curious to see a response to a 1.25B offer. I question what may be different here now since Ford's new CEO is changing quite a bit at Ford with some of these changes affeting actors involved with the potential sale of AM. For instance, the hatchet-man who had been brought in to off-load AM and perform other, un-specified tasks only recently had his role limited strictly to the sale of AM by Mulally.
My guess is that this gentleman was initially tasked with findinf a buyer for Volvo as well. Regardless, whatever else this man was tasked to move his mandate has changed. If another brand was on the table, which seems likely, and is now no longer up for sale will AM follow suit?
I'd like to see Ford keep both AM and Volvo. AM for the legacy and class, Vovlo for thier innovation and high saftey standards (which also trickles down into Ford products).
1.25b is alot of money and could do wonders at FOMOCO... im like you guys, very interested to see how Mullaly goes with it.
