Engine Failsafe Mode

So I was cruising down the freeway yesterday and all of a sudden my 05 Freestyle pops out of cruise, starts slowing down, and my trip computer reads "Engine Failsafe Mode". So I slow it down pull to the shoulder, stop and shut it off. I let it sit for about 10 seconds and tried to start it again. It started right up just like normal. So I took off and everything was fine, and I've driven about 100 since with no problems... So my question is.. What was that all about????

Issa computer. Made/designed by humans. Depending on human made/designed sensors and other devices.

Humans are falliable. Therefore, by definition, the computer is falliable.

In other words, it was tired, so it wanted a nap.

---

Seriously, though, it's likely an important sensor had a 'run' of intermittent data. So the computer did it's job, looks like.

I wouldn't doubt it might show up again, but I would also not doubt that it will be *highly* difficult to repeat on purpose.

Best bet? Sidle up to a car guy with a full computer scanner and get the scoop from the computer directly.

---

After I posted all that, I did a little googling:

Looks like the 05s might have some weirdo issue with the Throttle Body Assembly, and people are having fun trying to make it happen on purpose.

Probably not the only reason it could happen, but it sure seems rather prevalent...

Cody - you are just having too many issues with your cars! Time to get serious on maintenance and upkeep! Sure you've got oil in it? (and the tranny?) lol

I wonder if disconnecting the battery to 'reset' would be a good idea.

Engine oil is fine... had them change it 2000 miles ago when they were making the repairs after I hit the deer. It has 138,000 miles on it.

Follow-up:

Everything is still fine. My wife drove it about 1300 miles this weekend to Maryland with no problems.

Yep. I think engine Failsafe mode just disengaged it when that little episode happened.
