Editorial on How to Build a New Mercury Cougar

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/con...4366/index.php

I've been reading these editorials for a few months now, the author spells out ingredients for a new Cougar exactly how I would do it. Unfortunatley it just seems too logical to happen.

Thoughts?

pretty cool.

I think it would be great to see the mustang chassis shared and make a more luxery version of our beloved car.

And there’s plenty of room at the new AutoAlliance International assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan to build a “real” Cougar.
Uh Could have fooled me...aren't they still running overtime to keep up with the demand for the Mustang? Not to mention they also build the Mazada 6 there

Given that you are already starting to see rebates on V6 Mustangs to move them, hypothetically, they could scale back production on both the Mustangs and Mazda 6 to sqeeze in 20,000 units a year of the Cougar. The benefit would be the plant would be running on 3 shifts and none of the 3 cars would have to have rebates.

Exactly. It's clear at this point that S197 supply has exceeded demand (just look on the dealer lots). Ford could do it with little R&D $ spent.
