I found this on BON (I know, I know) but found it interesting:

Bascially Ford released the officials ratings of the new Duratec 35. In the Edge, and the MKX it's making 265 horsepower @ 6250 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque @ 4500 rpm. In the Zephyr (excuse me, the MKZ) its making 263 horsepower @ 6250 rpm and 249 lb-ft of torque @ 4500 rpm. All stats are on 87 octane.

Obviously, this is pretty good news (since we have been told for about a year that it would produce 250 hp).

Its so crazy nowadays that Ford has a 3.5L V6 that puts out more hp then the 2004 Mustang GT's 4.6L V8.

Wayto go ford for not letting us down on the duratec 3.5

Ford's still got it. In a way, this new 3.5 is like the old 5.0's. Amazing, Small, and hella peppy

Ford's the brand with the plan.

they have the hyrdaulic hybrid thing with the F150 in the works, a 6.2l V8 by cleveland, along with the 4.4l turbo diesel for the half-tons. This 3.5 which should be put in a very small coupe, tuned to be HO, and sicked on the 350Z.

And, to top it all off
SVT IS ALIVE.

I think Ford may just pull through, and, who knows? even beat toyota

Its amazing how much HP ratings have gone up in all cars over the past 5 years. i wonder how its going to be in another 5. but lets just hope it doesnt get too out of hand.....i dont want anyone in a 2009 fusion flying past me on the road......ever [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/04.gif[/img]

I wonder how a 5 liter or larger displacement V8 derived from that engine would rate? If Ford ups the power of this V6 for use in the Mustang - they'd better! - I would seriously consider a V6 instead of a GT. Then again, they'd better make a corresponding upgrade to the V8. Now show us what a turbo version of this engine can produce.

Ford's going to be fine. Their international business is profitable and their label brands like Mazda and Volvo are enjoying renewed popularity. The US market share's never going to regain it's former glory, and the American Brands still have a bit of work that still needs to be done, but Ford's alot better off than GM.

Plus Aston Martin is finally making a profit, and with the new V8 model, will have great sales this year. Ford is in way better shape than GM, IMHO. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumb.gif[/img]

Ford lost more money than GM in the first quarter, but it's due mainly to restructuring and plant closure costs. Without those charges, they posted a profit overall. North America sales though haven't come around like they had planned unfortunately. I'm betting Mustang sales have cooled as well cause every dealer I pass now has quite an inventory sitting.

I'm very happy with the 3.5. I hope to see it replace most of the v-6's in the Ford lineup.
(hoping for an SVT Fusion coupe with a super or turbo charged version of this engine)

GM is doing restructing as well. From what I've read recently in the Automotive publications, Ford is in WORSE shape than GM. Things aren't too bright for us Blue Oval guys.

And they base that on what? Ford's international and PAG brands (save Jaguar) are profitable. GM's Europe operations lost nearly half a billion last year and aren't showing signs of a turnaround. Take away plant closings and associated costs, Ford was in the black last quarter. GM was not and they didn't have a plant closing happening that Q. And GM's Bob Putz keeps dumping money into limted-production sports cars while their volume sales hinge entirely on the launch of the Truck models, while Ford's aggressively going after volume sedan and hybrid sales. If Ford can get their plants closed with minimal pain, and keep their focus on making the car lines competetive, they're in good shape.

You are optimistic. Ford really doesn't have any strong products in development for the US. The Fusion is an average product as well as it's Lincoln sibling. It's sad that Ford doesn't bring over the Euro Focus and various Aussie products. It would really rejuveniate their lineup. GM has a lot of nice cars/CUVs in the works, especially Saturn and Buick. Cadillac is a growing brand, unlike Lincoln. GM's profit per vehicle has also increased as of late and their sales are on a slight rebound.
