Crown Vic prototype with hood bulge

This crown vic has a similar bolt-on hood bulge to what we saw on some early GT500 mules. Hope this means the cops'll get a decent hp bump for their cruisers. I don't think they need 340hp like in a HEMI charger, but a cool 300hp, 320lb-ft from a 5.4L V8 would be pretty solid. And I love the look of the crown vic, even more so after a couple years, but a freshening on the outside could be cool.

I'm betting it's just a 3v 4.6. It makes sense, they are going to try and phase out the 2v, the 3v are more fuel efficient, better emissions, more hp. The Explorers are already getting the 3v, why not the CVPI so it can compete a little better with the Chargers and Impala SS's.
I think you're right about that one. I definitely could not imagine a supercharger going into the Vic, especially not with Ford's current situation. But a 5.4L wouldn't be too far off. The 3V 4.6 would be most appropriate though.
The crown vic is definnatly due for a power increase but just casue that car is running around like that doesn't nessessarly mean that they are testing the engine for that car..
sometimes they test engines in other chassis to be more discreet.

I would be shocked to see a blower on a VERY mass produced item like the CVPI. The demands on Eaton to delivery enough of those little jewels would be enormous. I vote 3v 4.6 or some 5.4 variation.
I would LOVE to see a hybrid option for city cruisers and taxi cabs. Think of how many crown vics spend half their day idling in Manhatten... How bout a mild hybrid 3V 4.6L V8... Electric mode at idle and electric assist on acceleration. That'd be a pretty quick car and much more efficient too.
ahahaha.... so true though. You got me worried that I had already mentioned the hybrid thing in this thread and I was repeating myself within threads.
I'm in the middle of building a hybrid snowmobile at school, so you can understand i'm a little preoccupied with the subject.

thats pretty sweet
i always have thought hybrids could be a viable performance additive, as well as economical, i mean, with an electric motor's low end and almost instantaneous torque assisting an already potent V8 (or say, a V8 tuned for high RPMs with somewhat less low end grunt) would make for a VERY interesting machine.
and the added bonus of the idling and low speed electric power are prettty cool, especially for cops and taxis, or heck, anyone stuck in their commute!
sighs and daydreams about the day when he can buy a 12 second mustang that gets 30mpg from the factory and still have it be perfectly reliable....

One of the main problems with making a hybrid cvpi is the weight issue. Many of them are already pushing 5000lbs when loaded up with all the lights, sirens, radios, weapons, and other misc. equipment. Adding a huge and heavy battery bank will make it a friggin tank! Then you have to upgrade brakes, suspension, tires/wheels, not to mention safety upgrades to accomodate the extra weight and balance issues.
Agreed, it would be nice and could potentially save lots on gas $, but there is more to performance than straight line acceleration and adding even more weight will really hurt handling.
I would be perfectly happy cruising with the 3V 4.6 @ 300hp, and no extra weight.
