Capless Fuel Filler (Merged)

I think this will be awesome!

From media.ford.com

Capless Fuel Filler: Ford's industry first technology that eliminates the fuel filler cap was originally put into production on the Ford GT and is set to debut across the company's product lineup starting with the 2008 Lincoln MKS. The capless system is a tangible example of how Ford is developing innovative product solutions to satisfy the unmet needs of consumers. Capless fuel filler technology eliminates the inconvenience of forgetting to put the gas cap back on after fueling and saves time during refueling by eliminating the need to unscrew a fuel filler cap. It's also better for the environment because no gas fumes escape.

I know this is just mocked up, but it just looks tacky not thought through. Maybe if its one of the 60's type gas filler caps that flip out. First gen Viper style.

Well that one is on the Ford GT. I doubt many will be filling it up in the rain, but ya never know. Im pretty sure on other models it will be on the side like normal.

That is a funny thought though Ken.. I didn't think of it.

That is no mockup. Ford GT's were the first to have a capless fuel filler.

I would bet that on cars like the Fusion they would have the same type of flip-open cover we have now but instead of a gas cap underneath, there'd be the cap-less filler neck.

so I'm guess you would have to pop it open from the inside like your hood?

Article I saw today says it will appear on the Lincoln MKS in 2008 and eventually be on all Ford products.
Personally, I like it.
