Advice needed on '70 Cougar XR7

This car is for sale at a local dealer for just over $8,600. The only specs they give are: "V8, automatic, electric windows, white leather, bucket seats, double exhaust".

I've just come across it on their website, but I plan to e-mail them for more info.
From the exterior pics it looks great, however I must admit I know next to nothing about Cougars, so please give your input, any info is welcome!

Thanks!

You might try:

Cougar Club of America

Most of its value lies in whether this is a true XR7 or not.

I know mercury cougars shared much of the chassis, suspension and underbody of the mustangs of the time.

I'd check that car over really well for bondo and patchwork. Part of the reason the price is low could be the bumpers are painted body-color, it has dated aftermarket wheels. It looks like it could have been a recent repaint to sell.

http://www.mercurycougar.net/ is a pretty good site/forum.

I'd see bout the VIN and Dataplate info, see what they have to say. Overall looks like a nice kitty.
