2014 Ford Fiesta ST EPA-Rated at 26/35 MPG
Power and efficiency aren’t mutually exclusive attributes when it comes to Ford’s hot hatches. Ford has announced fuel economy figures for the 2014 Fiesta ST hot hatch, which will be rated at 26/35/29 mpg city/highway/combined.
The new fuel economy ratings put the Fiesta ST roughly mid-pack among its competition, the Mini Cooper S, Fiat 500 Abarth, and Chevrolet Sonic RS. Buyers looking for more frugal fun may do better to head over to a Fiat showroom, since the 500 Abarth achieves a combined score of 31 mpg, and it has the best city fuel economy at 28 mpg. The Fiat’s 34-mpg city rating, however, falls short of the Fiesta and the Cooper S’ 35-mpg ratings. The 2013 Ford Focus ST is rated at 23/32 mpg, and 26 mpg combined.
What the 2014 Fiesta ST has working in its favor is power: it’s the most powerful of the bunch with 197 hp and 202 lb-ft of torque from its 1.6-liter turbo-four. Only the top-trim Mini John Cooper Works hatchback (which sits above the Cooper S) has comparable power at 208 hp and 197 lb-ft (or 207 lb-ft with overboost), but that car retails for nearly $9000 more than the Fiesta ST.
The Fiesta is the second least expensive car in this group, with a base price of $22,195, beat out only by the Chevrolet Sonic RS that starts at $20,995. However, the Chevy is down 59 hp and 54 lb-ft over the Ford. Fully kitted-out, the 2014 Fiesta ST will set buyers back $25,955, which still represents a bargain in the segment, again undercutting all but the Sonic RS.
