2011 Excursion ... should Ford build it?

The clever craftsmen at Custom Autos by Tim can turn any 2010 or 2011 Ford F-250 or F-350 into what looks to be a factory-perfect interpretation of what the Excursion would look like if it hadn't been axed in 2005. Buyers can get their behemoths with either four or six doors and it usually takes Tim's crew around six weeks to turn a vehicle from a pickup to an SUV. In that time, the shop finds a 2005 Excursion from the southwest, drags it to their shop in Guthrie, Oklahoma and surgically removes the rear-end of the vehicle.
I think Ford should build them no doubt.

Sorry, even though I come from the land of Pickup trucks I just don't jump on the SUV band wagon easily unless someone has a lot of utility you need to utilize. But if, like I said, there is a need or high amount of want warranted, I am not against. I think the Excursion is sweet, especially when up armored and has a GAU-19 attached.

While I applaud the outstanding work this chap is doing ..personally I'm tired of Excursions and suburbans.
I lived in FL for 7 years and everytime I saw one of these behemoths it wa drivin by a woman that had ZERO passengers. In fact most SUV's I saw were the same situation.
but each to his own I guess.

Atleast you could get a deisel, you'd get better fuel economy then the expedition.

i still remember the day i first heard of the notion of an SUV "behemoth" that would be even bigger than the Suburban... I think it was an issue of Popular Science that had a 5 year product road map table for a bunch of different companies. Now it has come and gone, and while the thing always excited me and I thought it looked cool, I question how many people really needed something like that, and I guess Ford did too. If there was a profitable market for something like that, I'm sure Ford would build it, but it's not hard to imagine how there's a lack of business case for these things, with fuel prices only going higher. If you can't replace an Excursion with either a Flex or a super crew F350, you should probably try to adapt, cause I don't see a company adjusting their product portfolio for such a small minority of the market.

IIRC, aside from the Fuel Economy impact of the Excursion Ford found that most people who bought Excursions bought it for towing, which meant they were actually Super Duty customers. They decided the the extra seating and covered cargo space wasn't contributing enough to sales to make it worth it, especially with the Expedition already there.
My exact thoughts. Diesel option, and only sold as a fleet vehicle. Contractors and other crew type outfits would go for this in a heart beat.

That said, they guy I sailboat race with has one and it is the perfect, practical and pragmatic beast of burden for dragging 30 feet of full keel racing boat 1,200 miles down to Key West every year loaded with two weeks of gear and stuff. The old 7.3 PowerStroke does an admirable job of rattling down I95 dragging along a couple tons of extra mass, but I can't imagine what one of the new 800ft/lb diesels would do.

Normally I'm right with you on this, being that 97% of big SUVs are more urban fashion statements or monuments to conspicuous consumption as noted above.

by all means yes Ford should build this and it should ONLY have the Diesel Option. I have rode in older excursions that were diesels that got great mileage. Gas ones, well not so good. It is like the H2 Hummer, A person swapped in a diesel in it and got 22 mpg. Better then 6 mpg gas
But we have to get rid of this urea crap. This stuff is not good and it is just one more thing for people to spend money on. As far as being better for the enviorment? Dont buy into the lies!
