"Ugly people mover"?

Really...? You dislike it that much, huh?

I think it's brilliant. And I see a lot more Land Rover influence in it than I do FJ Cruiser.

I actually like the FJ Cruiser - but these are two completely different vehicles with different purposes.

To give you some overall length comparisons:

Flex: 202.3"
Expedition: 206.5"
Expedition EL: 221.3"
Edge: 185.7"
Explorer: 193.4"

So it's longer than an Explorer but shorter than an Expedition.

The folks over at the Top Gear site seem quite impressed:

Ford's flexible friend
Ford's profits might be taking a battering Stateside at the moment, but at least the Blue Oval has proved it can still get some things right with this: the Flex.
Unveiled in New York, Ford is describing the seven-seater as a 'family crossover', but to us it looks like a good ol' Yank station wagon.
That's definitely a good thing. The Flex carries over a healthy dose of the styling from 2005's Fairlane concept... and there's a hint of Mini Clubman about it in that white roof too, we reckon.

Thanks! I thought it looked really long. I've owned a bunch of Explorers (2 currently) and I guess I expected it to be more like the size of the Escape. Those dimensions just seem really large for a FWD based vehicle.

I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I love the original FJ the new model tries to pay homage to, but the new FJ Cruiser is the ugliest Toyota on the market IMO.....by some margin.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the FJ is ugly as hell, but it has the offroad capability to make it more of a "rugged/functional" ugly.

Not that comparing the two makes any sense anyway.

I think it looks good. If they could translate these looks into making a small next-gen Scion-killer - that would be even better and it wouldn't be that difficult as far as looks are concerned.
