Yeah, its pretty bad.
Other models don't look bad, but XL (base) is pretty bad.

This one looks pretty good

While I was a skeptic at first I've come to like them all. I think this design represents the 'mini big-rig' theme taken to it's Zenith, and my guess is people who like these trucks will really like the look. That said, I hope the F-150 continues on it's own, relatively unique path as before. This works for the Super Duty, but I think it would be pushing it on the F-150.

It doesn't matter much, the target buyers for the XL aren't buying for looks, just capability...

Yep, that type of truck usually ends up with a plow on the front of it anyway!

The upper level with the chrome grille looks amazing.

The lower levels with black grill, despite thair lesser amount of luster, still look like they could swallow any other truck on the road whole, and **** it out throught the tailpipes. Thats never a bad thing.

That is an XL without the XL Decor Group, which in the old truck gave it the XLT style headlights. Thats why it looks the way it looks. To me that looks to be a fleet vehicle.

Yeah, Jeff, can you tell me about those headlights on the fleet trucks? I always wondered about them. Were they just cheaper?

Yeah, they save the jeweled headlights for the XLT and up trim level. If you need those lights on an XL, they offer that package, to make the truck look "less fleet".

My F-150 is XL and I gotta say they hardly have anything as standard equipment. No cassette or CD player, nothing power, no cruise control ... My Mustang is base model and I got all those things standard.

You have to remember, that the F150 is a truck, used primarily by companies, while a Mustang is a personal car, hence the ammenities. For the F150, the less gizmos it has, the less things can break, when its being used by a company who may be HARD on its vehicles. Also less options= less weight, which translates to increased payload.

But still I expected something. At least cassette player and cruise control.
I'm really happy with the truck, but I don't use it very often (only 3,600 miles on the odometer). If it was my daily driver, I would have to add some of that equipment that Mustang has.

XL's the contractor grade of truck. If it came with a CD player, for example, contractors would ask for a level below without one. Why? They want to pay the absolute minimum for a basic features, basicoperation, basic maintenance truck. Hence the sealed beams on the Super Duty. They don't give a crap what it looks like, how it rides, etc etc. They just want to pay as little as possible up front and fix it with parts from Autozone.
