I don't see how 221 HP in a small car like a Fusion is underpowered. It may not the quickest kid on the block, but I'm sure it is not lethargic either. Of course, I've never driven one either.

Altima has a 270hp 3.5L and the Accord V6 has 240 or more i beleive. pontiac g6 has a 260hp. And not only is the fusion down by 40 or more hp its also way down on torque.
Fusion needs the 3.5

I get what your saying, but to me it seems as though the Taurus would be the competitor for those cars.

I've driven plenty of V6 Fusions, and they are wonderful cars. Not underpowered at all. And actually, I like the car so much, I've ordered a V6 Sport Package one for my next demonstrator. Can't wait for it go get built.

According to some of the Ford insiders on the BON forums, it gets the 3.5L in the spring (limited availability until later in the year when 3.5L production is high enough to feed the Hemosillo line).

I was out in a current BMW 5-Series two years ago. It had 225 HP, and yet it felt much smoother and more powerful than the current Acura TL with 270 HP.
Mind you, we are talking about BMW engineering here.

I recently drove a co-workers brand new Altima 3.5 CVT. That thing RUNS and what a weird weird feeling out of that CVT trans. No shifts ever. Quite bizzare. Puts me in mind of George Jetson's car for those of you who are old enough to remember that.
The Fusion does need the 3.5 as an option. I believe there is a place for all 3 engines in the lineup though. Fuel concious people go with the 4, most people would opt for the D30 which would be the mid level, and for those with the hunger, use the D35 as an option. Since we're doing this, make sure the D35 is tuned for 280 in this package. We want bragging rights over Nissan.
