2007 AM Vaquish S
Ok, no bag on the DBS but it is not the Vanquish's replacement. It's still a DB9, a very high end DB9, it may even occupy the "top" of the range until the new flagship hits the street, but it's a DB9. The true Vanquish successor will be distinct from the DB9 and Vantage just like the current car.

Sorry but that little misconception really bugs me.

I don't know if it's a misconception, or if the jury is still out. Many news outlets are reporting that the DBS is indeed a Vanquish replacement, and will become the top of the Aston Martin lineup, though they also say it will be limited to 300 units.
The DBS is a development of Aston's DBR9 race car. It sits between the DB9 and the DBR and shares the same platform and architecture - the same roof, side screen and wheelbase as the DB9 - but the whole thing is lower as the chassis has been dropped by 25mm. Its haunches are more pumped up and muscular, covering a 40mm wider track.

News outlets are reporting it as the Vanquish replacement becuase they're not programmed to accept a 2-3 year production gap between models. Like I said, no bag against the DBS as it is a fantasticly quick car and an excellent cap to the DB9 family. Aston, however, is not referring to it as a Vanquish replacement, and as the MA article says they're prepping an all new Vanquish as we speak.
Put another way: The Shelby GT-500 is not a Ford GT replacement. It's currently on top Ford's performance chart, and it's a fantastic Mustang. But noone says "the GT-500, which is replacing the Ford GT in Ford's lineup."
