1981 Ford Capri 3.0S (Euro)

I've had several Mk3 Capris like this......but mine were all the slightly later 2.8 "Cologne" V6 engine, not the 3 litres "Essex" V6 engine in this one.

Oh I sooooooooooooo would

Once had a '73 2.6 V6 WAY back in the day. A very nice 3/4 scale Euro Mustang that a buddy unfortunately totaled in a ditch.

Always had a subsequent soft spot for Euro (style) 6 banger sport coupes, from a '79 BMW 323i, a '94 Probe GT to my current '01 BMW M3.

Looks better than what was offered in the states under that name. It seems to hint with late 60's queues.

This was basically an evolution of the Mercury Capri II but with a lot more motor, trimmer front end and bumpers, and far better seats.

While I sort of understand Ford/Mercury going to the Foxstang platform to replace the Euro Capri II, pragmatically speaking, it did end up as basically a redundant car, loosing a bit of the distinctiveness of the Euro Capri.

PS It would be interesting were Ford to resurrect a Capri sport coupe based on a Fiesta or Focus platform, sort of a distinctive (smaller, lighter, more efficient) complement to the Mustang with more appeal to the import/tuner crowd. The Probe (then Cougar) and Mustang coexisted for a while in a similar way, even if the former models eventually succumbed to neglect.

I remember back in the day going to test drive a 2.8 for my cousin! I was impressed and he bought it! Now there was a mk 1 in an open barn just outside penzance a few years back! I think I'll check if its still there at the weekend!
