Would you have purchased a FR 500?

Let's just say for sake of argument that Ford would have produced the 1999 FR 500 for the approximate same cost as a 2003-2004 Cobra . . . would you have bought one?

The FR 500 made its appearance at the SEMA show in 1999. The car featured a 5.0L V-8 pushing 415-hp and 365 lb.-ft. of torque.

I think I would have purchased one instead of the Mach IF Ford would have manufactured it. What say you?

Tough choice, but I think I'd take a cobra over the FR500.

not liking the front at all. If they had made it as a vert, it might have been a possibility!

That's hard to say. If you gave me the choice right now, I'd take the cobra, hands down. Even though it was rated at 390 hp, it made over 415 anyway. It's a great performer and an awesome looking car.

But at the time this debuted, the cobra was only making a little over 300 hp, so a 415 hp engine would have been pretty tempting. I still dont like its looks entirely, but I could've gotten over that with the power it had.
By the way, was the 5.0 in it a pushrod holdover, or was it an enlarged modular engine like the modern Cammer 5.0?

I honestly would have gone the FR500. You had the seats, the glorious motor, nicer suspension, looks, wheels, etc etc etc..... I am not thrilled about the front end, but like anything else, that can be changed to suit your fancy

The FR500 was the first car to receive the Cammer motor. THe heads, intake and cams are available through FRPP for current 4v owners.

FR500 for me as well, I like the overall look of it! If they made it as a body kit it would be on my to do list! Plus, if I remember correctly, they managed to get that car up to 200mph in one test.

FR500 I think. Nice bit of power already without having to play. Its not the nicest looking mustang but who cares when you sell it 25 years down the line.

I would get FR500 if I was old enough. I really like that it has 50/50 weight distribution. And yes, I would change the front to a regular Mustang's grill

You can always drop in a supercharger later anyway.

I though they did offer the body kit, although you had to move the front suspension forward a few inches (5 or 6, I don't remember). I didn't even have a Mustang at the time, but I would've gone for it just for the suspension and engine. The front end definitely needs to be replaced though.

The FR500 was built in Silver and White. The super stallion was awesome, but I dont know how feasible it could have been as a street/daily driven car. The FR500 could easily pull double duty as a racer and DD.

FR500... When I look back and remember the 2000 GT I was going to purchase, the FR500 had it all over that car, in looks in addition to power. So yeah, I'd have bought one.
