The best bargain in a 99-04 GT. If you are looking to mod I see the Bullitt as an overpriced GT (sorry guys). As cool as the Bullitt was in 01' Ford kinda robbed it's look by putting it's wheels and hood scoop on regular GTs. I personally don't see the 5hp bump and minor tweaks to the everyday GT worthy of the added cost over any other 99-04 GT. The Mach1 will cost you more but also a great option, better in my opinion than the 99,01 Cobras.
Now is the time to buy used low mile 03-04 GT. For some reason i'm finding tons of 04' GTs selling quite cheap with next to no miles (5-15k on them)

Thats not a bad point, if you are looking to mod, the Bullitt might not be the best nag for the buck. I love mine and would never trade for a GT, but you can build a car just as good. However that's just the performance factor.
I love the look enough that I don't care that it was more than a comprable GT. Theres a nice other feel the car gives over the GT, but thats not gonna appeal to all of us
But DHG
That being said I think that a 96-98 cobra would be the best bang for your buck. A couple grandish less than an 03-04 GT, but you get a 4v
At least around here. 15-16K for an 04 GT, but about 14K for a 98 Cobra
Not sure of the prices out in MN though.. Just something to think about

never mind!
the 14K 98 cobra I looked at was way overpriced, even though it has some nice mods. There are plenty of 96-98s in the 5-7K range, and thats lerss than a 99 GT
96-98 Cobra FTW!!!

a 99-up GT stock for stock runs about the same as a 96-98 Cobra. Maybe they just don't put the power down as well but it is what I have seen first hand, either way both are still slower than a stock 05-09 GT.

When I was driving by ford in Aug of 2006, I saw out of the corner of my eye an orange blip that made me rubber neck. I had to come back around and take a look to see what it was that had caught my attention. It was an orange Mach1 like this one. The guy got the keys and we took a ride. It only had 10 thousand miles on it and boy was that a great ride. (Only 24000 dollars)
The interest rate on the loan at that time was way high so I turned my attention on the 2006 models, which I had purchased. (Loogy)
Now that I have been looking around at adds I can’t believe how the prices have dropped.
So now I’m taking all into consideration for the best bang for the buck. While most are thinking newer, I’m looking for an older car. I like cruising and the occasional race. Also twisty’s are a blast when I can find some. And Long road trips.
Mods to be considered: Rims, Handling Kit, Fat tires and so on. Not to say that I will afford all those mods at first, but in time it will be nice to have a body that will accept it. It’s hard to find a good looking Mach1 for a lower price 13.000 or so. Orange.

Also keep in mind the older the car the higher the interest rates. It's kinda a bad time to be in your position. Yes the 94-04 cars have dropped in price a great deal but if you have the money the best deal on the planet right now is buying a brand new 09' GT! These cars loaded are selling with huge rebates and low interest to qualified buyers. If I had the money I could buy a loaded 09' GT for about $22,000! Thats the deal of the century in my mind.

Wow stangs hold there value in Cali! Around here 03-04 GTs are selling for about 12-14k while low mile 96-98 Cobras are around 10k. I'm actually looking at an 05' GT w/ 25k loaded for just over $15,000!

yeah sorry, I posted again right after when I realized that the 98 snake I saw for 14K was not the norm...
the other ones I saw were 5-8K

Needs to be more Astony
From my experience even though the 96-98 cobras are rated 305hp, I have raced a few with my 1999 GT I had which only mods were cai and offroad x-pipe and i killed them.
Of course modding of the 4v will prob be better but stock for stock, I would prefer a 99 GT over a 96-98 cobra.
99 GT is lighter then the 96-98 cobras and the new edge looks...

Im not knocking a 99-04 gt, as my first mustang was a 00gt automatic, but i know for a fact stock for stock I could out run a 99-04 gt in my 96 cobra.
