hey all,

I've had this problem in the Bullitt for a while but i keep forgetting to post about it. after my road trip to SoCal something needs to be done. Whenever I use my AC, water starts dripping down from under the dash and soaking into the carpet, but only on the passenger side. I don't always notice it while itds happening bec i'm never in the passenget seat or my passenger doesnt notice. then the next day i open my car up and it smells like rancid ****. if i leave any clothes or paper on the floor it sucks it up like nothing else.

Pete has said thata the ducting may be clogged and condensation can't escape the normal way. what is actually going on here? and more importantly, how can i make i stop. last night i drove 470 miles with my windows down bec i didnt want my carpets to get moldy

 

Yeah. Check the water drain hole on the passenger side of the firewall near the exhaust manifold/h-pipe joint. Maybe fashion a proper drain tube after clearing any obstruction so the condensation doesn't drip on the hot exhaust piping.

 

Is the water cool leaking out, or warm. And is it just water? If there is coolant mixed in with the water your heater core may be on its last legs . . .

 

You can usually smell antifreeze from a leaky heater core.

 

I've got the same issue, my A/C is clogged somewhere. It's a major PITA in my jeep to fix, I have to take out the entire dash to clean it. ughhh!

My mother's Camry had the same problem. On her car, the hose could be accessed through the engine bay (on the firewall). I found recommendations online to either use a coat hanger or air pressure to clear the obstruction.

 

Clog!!!!

 

I was thinking of the accumulator being clogged/bad... but I dunno....

 

The junk thing is, Fox-based Mustangs don't have a drain hose coming out of the firewall. Maybe a softer wire or fine brush (something similar to a gun barrel bore cleaning one) could do the job? Could have something growing in there by now. May as well get the system cleaned out while you're at it.

 

im fairly certain if it were mixed with coolant it would have stained the white shirt, and various papers, books etc that its gotten wet before..

the water is usually cool when i get to it, unless i dont notice until a hot day and its warm just because.

ive been trying to only use AC when i REALLY have to. i kept my windows down for most of my road trip, but on one day it was so hot the window motor decided to bail on me (again!) thankfully it cooled down and is fine now, but i didnt wanna risk it

i'll try cleaning it out when i have some time later this week

 

My 99 GT had that issue, the water was usually really cold. and would splash on my feet if i took a turn fast.

It mostly would happen on passenger side, but if i turned right hard it would go to drivers as well.

clog for sure!

 

It's super cold when it comes out. I've had my feet there... I know.

Like I said before Arin, I'm fairly sure that it is just that downpipe that is supposed to let it drip out on the ground. I heard on Car Talk that it usually costs about 20 bucks to just have a shop clean it out.

but AC doesnt get much use now, and its getting cold fairly often. two nites in a row have my poor lil toes been frozededededed
