touch up or repaint

I've had my 2001 black bullitt for over a year now and I've fixed most everything on it. Interior and exterior. It's in great shape its just the front bumper and Hood have widespread bad looking rock chips. I've heard of Dr color chip or whatever but I think iT would look obvious and not hold up. My question is do I scuff the Hood and front bumper up reblack it and clear it. Or do I need to completely strip it prime it and repaint it. And does anyone know the color code for that black? Thanks in advance. I'm not sure if this is in the right section either

It's probably not gonna match. Black fades more than you realize.

Thanks guys. I figured it wouldn't be good to cut corners. Anybody know of any tricks to match up 11 year old paint and new. The rest of the car looks to good to repaint and it's original. Maybe a cobra front bumper with a 3 inch cowl Hood...

The color code is UA. Here's a reference: http://mustangattitude.com/cgi-bin/s...01&f1=clrpaint

I have the same year/color. Anyone know of a good place to buy some touch-up paint? I can't afford to repaint the car right now and except for one scuffed area, you'd never guess my car is 10 years old.

I would imagine the dealership might have some. Or go directly to the manufacturer website. Thanks for the code. I will try and track down places to buy it and post up a link. When you touch up an area you just scuff it put the black on then clear it? You have to blend right?

You're asking the wrong guy haha. I just found this website where you can put in your year/make/model/color-code and order paint and accessories. Link to website/instructions: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touchupdirections.htm

Attached is a picture of what I did to my beautiful car. I was using a headlight restoration kit and didn't protect the area around the headlight with enough automotive masking tape. What an idiot!

Let me know what you find out.

Yea that's not good. You know our headlights pop out real easily right? L shaped rods just pull on em.

Hah well I know now. It's just a scuff- it's not like it's that deep. What do you advise I do?

Buff it out. Its not easy but its not hard. Just tricky. Best bet is to find a local detail shop and see what they'll charge you. Not much probably. Might as well do the whole car. Or you could try rubbing compound. Go to the car care section and search buffing, scratch removal etc
I've never tried to buff anything simply because the amount of damage you can do by not doing it right

Yeah I don't really know what I'm doing so I'd be the one who does more bad than good. I'll try MAACO or try to find a local detailing shop, not sure of any around here though. Thanks for your advice and let me know how you make out.

I can't tell how deep it is but that should buff out ok. I'd guess a combo of heavy cut cleaner and show car glaze would do it. Can get them at just about any decent chain auto parts store these days. There are some grades of less abrasiveness than heavy cut and those might work too. use the heavy cut or other to smooth out the scratches and then the show car glaze to polish it out. I've made keying look decent or even vanish with this combo. You might get by with show car glaze alone.
