Steering loose?

I have a 2002 mustang gt and I've had this problem ever since I owned it. When the wheel is straight and I'm going down the road everything's fine, but when I go to turn I have to turn the wheel about 1 eighth either way before I feel it catch and the wheels actually turn. Seems my steering is loose. How do I fix this? Thanks!

Usually that's a sign that your steering box or steering linkage is worn out.

Eh. I wouldn't jump that far into it at first blow. The steering rack is affixed to the chassis by two bushings. Replace those guys and report back. MM makes a set of those bushings, and I've heard great things about responsiveness improving a lot with just the 20 bucks in bushings.
