The other night I was stopping by my cousin's for her 2-year old's birthday party. Her house is on a street that ends in a 90* turn into another street, and we always use that spot to make a u-turn to park in front of my cousin's house. As I'm slowing down to make my u-turn I see a few kids playing just around the corner and I pretty much come to a complete stop before making my turn because one of the kids had left a bike in the middle of the corner. I barely have enough room to clear the bike and the curb but I make the turn. I have my windows down and the father (I'm guessing) of one or all of the small kids yells out to me "hey slow it down, yeah?!"

Um...hey Mr. Safe Parent I wasn't even going 20mph down this (admittedly not busy) street. How bout you don't let your kids play in the street and leave their bikes in the middle of said street where CARS drive. I was so annoyed. I just responded "are you kidding me?" before I completed my u-turn and parked. I wanted to give that dad a piece of my mind, but decided against making him look like a fool in front of his kids. Pretty sure he had been drinking too, as he and the other adult both had PBRs in their hands.

I know I won't know what it's like to be a parent until I am one, but that was a little ridiculous. Dang loud, red Mustang. If only it WAS fast, then I wouldn't have let it bug me. But I ride low and slow. Especially through residential areas. That was just crap.

 

That has happened to me too. Got the evil eye and a "slow down!" while going 25 in a 25 zone.

But hey, I made the choice to put long tubes on the car, so...I guess it is that much louder than stock.

 

Sorry buddy, that's ridiculous. I know my Honda makes a lot of noise in the lower gears and it sounds like I am really on it when I'm not. It's kind of embarrassing. I'm like am I douche-bag Honda guy? (Not a question for other forum members to actually answer, yes I know I what the answers are) so I feel your pain.

haha! I had this happen to my a few years back when I first got my 06 vert. I just had started from the stop sign and some old lady was weeding her lawn and yell "SLOW DOWN!!!! KIDS PLAY ON THIS STREET". First off she could nto of gotten all that out if I was flying by. I was doing less then 20 because I was still in first gear and her house was 10 feet form the stop sign.

 

Oh yeah. One of those houses on the corner has a couple Subarus and a Prius parked in front; the other has a 66 Mustang coupe, a Taurus and an older F-350. Anyone want to guess which owner yelled at me?....

Fixed! Subaru's compared to the brethren fuel sippers SUCK comparably. The reason I won't buy and STi?? Cause a freaking 412 Hp Mustang does better on fuel!

And I actually like some Subarus. They aren't really good on gas either. But it was the choice of Subaru that told me what kind of owner this was....

It's happened to me too. A kid riding his bike in the street in our neighborhood yells "SLOW DOWN!" as I cruise by at 20 MPH. I roll down my window and yell "GET ON THE SIDEWALK!". Dumb kid.

 

Yep. Never drive in first gear at high RPM anywhere.

 

I'm so glad I'm not the only one this has happened to! I am a substitute teacher and so when I go to schools, I am usually entering and leaving schools at pick up and drop off times. One particular time, I was coasting in line with a bunch of cars on the way out and one of the school staff started waving his hand like "slow down!!" I wasn't even on the throttle at all! Absurd!

 

ya the same kinda thing happened to me before. i took by brother to school one morning and after he got out of my car i start going....probably 10 mph cuz theres a stop sign right infront of me. so right after i stop im rolling and this lady yells "SLOW DOWN A**HOLE!!!!!" and im doing like 15 mph max probably closer to 10. Just because i had a catless H pipe and 3 inch magnaflow. people are stupid, they think loud=fast even when if they were looking they should be able to judge how fast your going

 

Keep in mind the STI has a 300+HP Turbo and AWD.... I think that is a big part of the reason for the poor MPG numbers. I had a Subaru Legacy GT a couple years back it had a turbo 4, AWD and got similar numbers to a Mustang. The non turbo 4s tend to get around 30MPGs with the AWD thats not too bad.

 

my five hundred gets 31 mpg. its awd and its huge.

 

ive had the same thing happen in my jeep as well, it's just loud, not fast! The limit is 30mph, you've pretty well gotta be in 4th to get there, no dude, I wasnt speeding, and your kids shouldnt be skateboarding off ramps into the streets.
